I have a burning need for the world's best sofa. Requirements: VERY deep seating. My husband and I are both over 6ft tall, and the shallow 24in seat just doesn't allow us to lounge properly. We want modern, made with fabric, and comfortable. I remember Restoration Hardware having a $3000 leather number that was super-deep, but we're looking more in the $1000-$1500 range. I'm thinking of resorting to buying 1 left hand and 1 right hand chaise lounges and pushing them together...too extreme? Now you see that I mean business. Thanks, Apartment Therapy!!
Anyone?

I think Macy's is your best bet for that price range.
Pottery Barn or
Crate and Barrel
They always have deep sofas, but much higher priced then your budget.
I have a very deep, and long sofa from Carlyle in NYC
It's so comfortable, I like to take naps on a sofa.
But my sofa was almost $ 5,000.

My hubby is 6'4 and has the same issues. We purchased ours for 1500 last year. They had a few DEEP models. Good luck!
We got a sectional from carolinachair.com because they will customize anything. Their standard pics aren't all that inspiring, but take a look at their custom pics. You can send them a pic of what you want and they will make it! We changed the length of some of our pieces, but I'm sure they could change the depth too.
When shopping we also saw the Dr Pitt sectional at Mitchell Gold Bob Williams, and that looked just plain loungeable!
crate and barrel's lounge sofa! it's at the top of your price range, but it's so worth it.

I don't have it yet, but Crate and Barrel's Petrie Sofa, if I remember correctly, has over 30" of depth. from front to back of sofa it's 36".
Mine arrives in April in a sexy rust color, called Mineral Red. :)
I was just reading good reviews of the 'track sofa' at cb2, and they also have another one called the 'movie slipcovered sofa' that is supposed to be extra deep. I haven't seen either in person yet, but may be a good place to start. AND in your price range, which is always good.
I agree with the Macy's comment. I recently purchased their corona sofa which has a fairly deep seat, but I am not sure if the back is high enough for the two of you. I was actually really surprised to find they had a really nice selection of contemporary furniture that doesn't all belong in my mom's house. See if you can check out one of their stores with the large furniture section (not all of them have a full section).

The Townsend sofa from Room and Board is very deep and totally comfortable...we bought one this past summer and have been happy with it every day since!
My onle note of caution is to carefully measure your doors- especially if the couch you choose has a tall back as well...there is nothing more depressing than the delivery men walking down the driveway with the couch of your dreams...
This Movie Sofa from CB2 seems like a good bet and has great reviews (specifically from tall people): http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=102&f=3856&viewall=1
Also available with a slipcover: http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=102&f=4686&viewall=1
Oh I wish I could remember the manufacturer of our couch. My husband is 6'3 and he loves our couch, it has deep seating and he is able to lay down completely on it, and it was well under $1000.
eriika beat me to it. I was gonna recommend C&B's Lounge sofa too. I think it's about 46" deep. I've sat on it in the store and it's sooo comfy! However, the back may not be tall enough for you and your husband (I'm only 5'4, so it was fine for me).
when i tried it out at the showroom, i found the leather ikea stockholm sofa to be very deep.
I have the opposite problem. I'm 5'2" and every sofa I've tried gives me a backache from not enough support. I've propped pillows behind me, but I wind up feeling like Goldilocks in the chair that's too big.
I think many of the click-clack type sofa beds tend to be very deep because they have to turn into full/queen size beds. (Especially any sofas that have a lower back or a gap where the back and the seat meet--since the seat would have to compensate for that by being wider.) Ours is a bit too deep for us but we are not tall people.
This is cheaper than what you are looking before but we have been pleased with this sofa. http://efstyle.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=5087
We got our sofa from that website; you might try them as they seem to have several that could work.
me and my 2 herniated discs are with alice... even at 6ft, it was hard to find a properly shallow model. most everywhere (those mentioned above) sell waaay deeper than 24in seats.
I purchased the lounge from crate and barrel and love the deep seating-- even for 6'4 and above, it's a curl up sofa. We got the 94 inch long one, and I think the construction is lacking a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I love the couch, but when you sit, it sags in the middle. we noticed because we have a laptop table where the legs scoot under the couch, and it fits with ease when no one is sitting on it, and doesn't when someone is. So, there's that.
I've seen some very deep couches at Pottery Barn before. I'm not sure what they have now.
I second the Crate & Barrel Lounge sofa. It's 46" deep and very comfy. Worth every penny!

I second the Mitchell Gold Bob Williams suggestion. Just bought their Jordan sectional and its super deep, looooong, and the fabric is awesome.
I just bought a couch from ABC carpet from Cisco Brothers and it is too deep for me, it would be prefect for you.
My feet are about ten inches off the ground when I sit to the back.
Good luck.
Given that you have budget for a good piece of furniture... I suggest calling Room & Board (and ask for Amanda if you can get her). Tell them that you're looking for the most deeply seated couches they have and ask for the measurements. I was shopping for a sofa and almost ordered one that was going to be disappointing for my 5'2" stature, and they helped me select one that would be ideal for me. Their customer service is outstanding. Truly. And you'll get significantly better quality than you would from CB2, West Elm, etc. Mitchell Gold furnishings are great too, but priced higher for the designer name.
I had the Pottery Barn Square Arm sectional sofa for about ten months. I'm 5'4", and just was not deep enough to get my lounge on. It was never comfortable. Ends up that there were some major manufacturing issues and the sofa had to go back -- they gave me a merchandise credit and I got the Manhattan leather sofa and chair-and-a-half (which is really the size of a love seat). Very happy with the new pieces...but they were expensive.
All of this is to say that I would stay away from some of the PB pieces.
Restoration Hardware has a super-wide leather sofa, I have to say, though, that I intensely dislike the way their leather wears. Even tiny fingernail scratches are apparent and over time, the pieces end up looking quite worn -- not the look I want.
Good luck on your search.
Yup, C&B's Lounge sofa is VERY comfy and is incredibly deep, plus it fits in your price range.
The Corona sofa from Macy's is NOT deep and I would not recommend it if you're looking for a loungy sofa. I love mine, though.
It may sound cheap, but the Ikea Kramfors sofa is great. I'ts been on my wishlist for a while. It's in your price range, and fit me (6'2") fantastic. My 5'4" wife wasn't as enthusiastic, but she likes curling up on it. Plus, there are a number of options for it (chaise, love seat, full size, etc.).
Have you looked at the Gus Modern couches? I don't know the specs off the top of my head, but when we tried them out in a local store we found them insanely deep (esp. the sectionals). Not crazy expensive, either, so maybe worth a look?
Macy's does have the Tyler Sofa which is 40" deep and very comfy- and it's way under $1000
http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=310812&CategoryID=42862
CB2's Movie Sofa is also 40" deep - and $999:
http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=102&f=3856&viewall=1
Pottery Barn's Pierce Sofa is 41" deep - and it's currently on sale in a selection of Microfibers for just under $1500 (regularly $1850)

Room and Board's Townsend Sofa is 41" deep:

...as is the Klein:

...and Kendal is 42" deep:

Oh, and if you don't mind not going armless - CB2's Piazza sofa is 44.5 " deep:
http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=102&f=5170&viewall=1
We got a Berkely sofa from rowe a few years ago and it's very deep. Also a great deal. I think we ended up paying about $800 dollars for it, which included a discount, but it would have still been affordable. I highly recommend them.

Great question. As a tall person myself, I love these answers. My roommate's "average" size sofa isn't cutting it for me. When I'm able to have my own place, I'm going deep and will keep these resources in mind.
My husband is 6'2" and wanted a sofa where he could lounge lengthwise. We were also on a budget. We bought the Peyton sofa from Ashley Furniture for $899 I think. Yeah, that's right--Ashley. But I love that sofa; it's probably my best furniture purchase ever.

Check out Montauk Sofa (http://www.montauksofa.com)--they're a bit pricey, but definitely well worth it. Amazing fabrics to choose from, down-filled cushions...All of their sofas & chairs can be made to your specifications if you need, say a few extra inches. I purchased the Recanier Lounge 7 years ago and it's absolutely an amazing place to nap! Oh, and another bonus is that all sofas/lounges/chairs come with a custom-made white canvas slipcover, which is a great way to change things up a bit!
I went to the DWR annex a couple of weeks ago and they have great couches under 2k. I really liked one that was very deep, contemporary looking and made with fabric.
the anexx is in secaucus, NJ but it's worth a visit. I wish I had known about it before I bought all my furniture!
Do check out the Axis sofa at Crate and Barrel... that wasy my husband's pick for a comfy sofa (he is 6'2").
I'm only 5'2" and my solution was to get a pair of chairs (we got the Gigi from Room and Board) for better back support.
Wow!! Thank you all so very much! I'm going through these links one at a time! I have hope now!

Comfort is in the rear of the beholder. I am a 6ft tall gal, and I hate a sofa that is too deep. I just got rid of a Restoration Hardware sofa that was 44" deep because it was impossible for me to get comfortable on it. I like enough room to curl up, but I want to be able to sit upright too without my legs sticking out like Edith Ann.
Good luck in your pursuit!
I don't know if you have a Z Gallerie anywhere near you, they have a lot of comfortable oversized sofas:
http://www.zgallerie.com/pc-1059-57-mammoth-sofa.aspx
I found this really deep sofa bed: http://www.azzia.com/product/DIV0003. Lots of colors and made in the U.S.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm so happy to find this thread.... I have about 10 tabs open in Firefox to look at now! Thank you!
OHHH OH OH! This was a dilemma I recently had! My hubby is 6'4 and wanted a couch to louge in and sink into and let me tell you, I searched far and wide for something deeper than the standard 38-40". I FINALLY found it at Arhaus furniture. IT's called the Del Ray sofa. It's a whopping 46" deep. It's almost like a twin bed! Anyhow - the pillows and cushions are down wrapped and you really can just fall into it, and you can fit at least 4 people on it comfortably for movies, etc. I ended up getting custom fabric, but you have 10+ standard choices to choose from, and if you get one of the std fabrics, I believe you can get it for under $1900. Check them out!
As of right now you can get very deep discounts in Hickory, NC. Look up the Hickory furniture mart after-market sale...acres of furniture from the best vendors. I know folks who fly in from Seattle, WA and all over the world for ridiculous discounts and ship it back, because it is cheaper. The fall sale (the best sale they offer) this year is November 4-6, but they generally will get their shipments in a week in advance and honor the deep discounts!! I have purchased a beautiful custom couch with a twin size mattress for $2200.00...regularly $7000.00. I have seen a handful of Ralph Lauren double armoires, gorgeous, on sale for $800.00, regularly $11,000. No joke. I have sat on couches so deep that I didn't like it, but maybe you would! I am 5'10''.
If traveling to Hickory, NC this weekend doesn't fit in your schedule, mark the calendar for next year, or check out the unbelievable sale that they have on the Comfort sectional at Pottery Barn. It is more than 50% off. For about $1600.00 delivered to your home, you can choose from a few limited colors with a knife edge seam that they overproduced. I just found out about this unadvertised sale last week in our local store, but it is a nationwide sale while supplies last! It is their deep couch at 40". Good luck!
Has anyone ever researched day beds? The are really deep. I think they could work for casual seating in a family room.
I am desperate for deep seating and comfort. I don't have to have matching chairs ect. I am eclectic in style. Covers can be changed and don't cost an arm and a leg.
Any comments on this?
