I purchase a dark mahogany one from IKEA about 10 years ago or more. I'm not sure if they still carry them.

Made me think of old drafting stools. I think the style is called a "screw lift" stool. I've only seen them made of steel though, not sure where to find it in wood. it's beautiful though.

Googling led me to "adjustable piano stools'. Couldn't find a perfect match, but this is fairly close:

I'm sure you can get stools like this at all sorts of prices but I bought mine at ikea about 10 years ago, and it would have been less than $10.

I found one in the trash last year, unfortunately there is no information on it. I've always thought that it might be a piano stool.

CB2 has something similar for $129.

I got an unfinished wood stool of the same design from IKEA a few years back -- it was quite inexpensive. Unfortunately it also never held together sturdily. The top was always unstable.

We've had the Ikea version in our closet for 13 year--no problem.

i got one like it - only in birch with red seat- from habitat about 7 years ago. sadly they don't stock them anymore..

I have one just like that. It was my mother in laws and she had it for years. I don't know where she got it from but I might sell it. It is wood and dark green still in great shape.
