You could just use a tension shower curtain rod so you can use whatever shower curtain you want. (Use the current one to hang laundry from on laundry days!) Seems like finding just the right shower curtain is all you need to bring everything together.

Hey There, I feel your pain. I'd probably ignore the current curtain pole and get yourself a cheap shower tension rod at home depot and place it standard height. Then I'd get a nice white duck cloth shower curtain to give yourself a visual rest from all that's going on. Good Luck!

What about a solid white shower curtain, and a towel hook on the wall a few inches away from where the brown tiles end? It could be functional because you would have a hook to hang your towel, for easy access when you're done showering, and the towel may hide the brown tiles peeking out from the shower curtain. Or some type of shelving or something decorative...?

Ideally, the shower curtain rod could be moved forward enough so that the hanging shower curtain would cover the brown tiles. I'm guessing that's not possible here.

Use the existing pole for your liner and then get an extension type pole with the rubber ends (no drilling) to put further on the outside to cover the tiles. Maybe do the shower curtain itself in white to lighten things up. Add something to the bottom to make it longer - beads? contrasting fabric that you sew on or heat tape on.

I was thinking a solid colored curtain would be the best also ~ maybe a yellow to accent the yellow tiles & possibly tone down the all of the blue.

I like the idea of getting a new tension rod also ~ You get a new rod at Target or Walmart for under $10.

The blue paint is great. I agree that getting a tension rod to put at the height that you like would be a good fix. Using the old one to hang laundry on would be very useful. I also think you may be worrying way too much about the brown tiles peeking out from the shower curtain.

White! It would calm the blue down.

Another tension shower curtain rod hung at the right height is a great idea. I would do a clear heavy shower curtain with a tension rod.

I suggest a white standard shower curtain as a liner (you'd let it sit inside the tub) and then also hang a fabric curtain of the appropriate length for the current rod so that it would fall outside the tub. You could make one yourself from a fabric you like by just sewing a few simple seams. I would do both in white to offset the bold blue.

I've had to deal with the whole "shower curtain rod is too high" business.

I got a bunch of shower curtain ring sets and made a chain with them. It ended up looking pretty cool and certainly did the job.

I purposely set the shower curtain rod high in our redone bathroom just to keep the shower from seeming crowded. I then used bead chain to suspend a standard curtain at a height that put the bottom edge below the edge of the tub. I cut 12 identical lengths of bead chain, strung them through the curtain ring holes at the top of the curtain and connected the ends with those little snapping gizmos, which came with the chain.

I bought the bead chain in the lighting department at Home Depot but I'm sure you could get it elsewhere; I've seen big rolls at a local locksmith. The bead chain slides easily on the rod; I was worried that it would get tangled but mostly it doesn't and it's easy to untangle if it does.

Really? It's on 10' so I can't picture it looking 'ridiculous'.

I suggest maybe getting some decals - like the feet or rubber duckies. I would think that could create a flow and make the space between the curtain and floor look a little smaller. The feet could be really cute if your putting them right in front of the bath mat.

I think it's a cheaper alternative than investing in a 2nd rod and ensuring that your curtains are of a certain length.

I'd suggest a long, solid yellow or white shower curtain made out of fabric, then hemming it to the right height using iron-on hemming tape (if you don't want to sew).

get an 84" long x 100" wide outdoor curtain and use that for your shower curtain. It will make the room appear taller, add some heft and best of all, function well in the humid bathroom environment.

Bed, Bath and Beyond has a clear shower curtain that is longer than the standard (we had to get one too).
Clear won't clash with anything either.

I like the idea of a bright solid white or clean shower curtain. You can order a larger size or go make your own from something you pick out from a good fabric shop. I bet looking around online will give you tons of ideas.

You "chain" together curtain hooks creating an extension for any curtain of any regular size you like. Invest in a few packages of matching or coordinating shower curtain hooks and have fun.

My mother figured out this cheap and easy solution to a similar problem about 30 years ago. (We had a window at one end of our rod, so it had to be hung very high.)

That bathroom is not that bad! This is an easy fix.

You can take down the current rod if you hate it that much and replace it with a tension rod at the appropriate height and location. When you move, you can just put the old one back up. OR keep the rod and just add a tension rod outside of it.

Stick with a white or pale yellow shower curtain and it will balance out the brilliant blue. I have the white hotel waffle shower curtain from Target (Bed Bath and Beyond has one too) and I love it.

If the current rod is only nailed in, just pull it out and move it though.

It doesn't look too bad, but then again, I just discovered that the walls in my vintage-teal-fixtured bathroom were once bright pink. I shudder to think of having to live with that combination, teal tub, toilet, and all.

The one bit of advice I'd give you is that if you can't remove the fixtures, you have to work with them. We got a great mod shower curtain that worked well with the teal and the place looked a million times better right away, because we weren't fighting the teal or trying to hide it.

Of course, fun mod retro was sort of in our style area, so it wasn't too far of a stretch. But still, I think it's better to have something with some style that all works together than try to force a style that doesn't fit on the underlying stuff you can't change.

MOVE OUT! If you can't have freedom within your own walls, why bother.....

Pick up a cream colored shower curtain and some fabric (maybe a rich brown) to sew about 10 inches to the bottom - voila it's long enough.

Get coordinating accessories in just those two colors and then the hideousness should at least be brought down to tolerable.
