Q: Like a lot of couples, my husband wants a comfortable recliner and I want something I like the looks of. After reading the many recliner related posts on Apartment Therapy, I've got my sights set on this one from Room & Board: Pierce Recliner (at left). Does anyone have experience actually using this chair? How comfortable is it? Is the push back mechanism quiet? We aren't near a Room & Board store so we'd have to buy online without trying it out. Any suggestions for similar recliners that I might have overlooked?

Editor: I personally own the Flight Recliner from DWR — which I recommend to anyone looking for a stylish recliner with a small footprint. It's extremely well-made and my only regret is not spending the extra money for leather (doh!).

Although it's not technically a recliner, is quite pricy, and comes with its own masculine, MCM design baggage, the Eames lounge chair ottoman is extremely comfortable.
More downscale, but also a bit out of the box, are the Stressless series of recliners - think Norwegian design meets LazyBoy.
Good luck hunting
I've wanted to test out the Crate & Barrel Tracy Recliner which is similar:

I spent $50 on our la-z-boy, found on craigslist. If you have $1400-3000 to spend on a chair, I salute you I guess.
I have had Stressless chairs since 1983 and LOVE them. The last time I check, a couple of years ago, they were roughly $1,500. They are much more attractive than bulky recliners, ergonomically "perfect" if someone has back problems and come in different sizes so they "fit" properly.
I bought my first one after a terrible bike accident - I was incapable of pushing back traditional loungers. I am now on my second. These truly do adjust without any effort.
You can recline to reading / TV viewing position - or click the head rest and take a nap (I don't think you can do this on the cheapest one).
take the bus to nyc to sit in various chairs add a few bucks to the cost of the chair for the trip and some food
A friend has a Stressless. I want him to give it to me. That is a chair beyond the beyond. Only problem is that sitting anywhere else would be ruined. They do have a rather architectural look, or office chair look, but compact and heaven....
I've actually been surprised at how much my husband has liked Ikea's Poang chair. It's not necessarily a "recliner," but it definitely reclines and is very comfy. Don't know if it's quite what you're looking for, but it's worth a shot! They're offered in many colors.

I am very familiar with the Pierce chair. I work at Room and Board. Although we don't have the Pierce recliner on the floor, we do have the standard chair. It is a shorter recliner. (I am 5'9" and it hits me only at the shoulder). It is a comfortable chair for shorter folks, but just to give you a heads up, if you are taller, it may not support your head in a reclining position.
I would suggest also looking at Room and Board's Harper recliner, which fits in with many different body types for short and tall people and if you want a taller recliner, look at Room and Board's Griffin or Baron recliners: http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/subcategory/list.do?catalog=room&category=rm_living_spaces&subcategory=recliner. All are super comfy!
Dutailier has recliners.

This was something that concerned me when my husband and I bought our first home. We needed new furniture, and I knew he wanted a recliner. I told him that it could NOT be corduroy or some wretched color. We picked out our sofa and love seat first, then went over to the La-Z-Boy showroom and picked out a beautiful recliner that happened to be a floor model-it is a brownish/wine colored leather. I would highly recommend La-Z-Boy! Good luck!!!!
