Good Questions: Alternatives to Roche Bobois' Rivage Sofa?

Hi Apartment Therapy, I am looking for an L-shape section which can seat 4-5 people for my apartment. I really love this Rivage Sofa from Roche Bobois, it has a tufted look on the seating and very interesting design for the legs. But, at over $10,000 it is above my budget, is there a cheaper look alike? There is also a video of the sofa. Thanks, Winnie

Hmmm, this sofa design by Phillipe Bioux is part of the new 2009 collection....so it is doubtful that anything on the market is going to be super-similar. Does anyone have ideas for similar alternatives for Winnie?

west elm thompkins was similar but that looks like its been discontinued.

ikea kramsfors :) i don't know if they still have it in white, but there are many airy colors to choose from, the sofa is super comfy and sits a large group. i have the kramsfors in brown leather - it's held its shape amazingly well (people sleep on it even and it is still bouncy and the leather is firm) and it comfortably sits 5. hope this helps!

Somewhat similar and very well made. I've had mine for 10 years and it looks brand new. You can have it custom made in fabric and dimmensions of your choice.

Those metal legs are going to be expensive to replicate - if you could do without that element, you're giving yourself far more options. The pieced upholstery isn't cheap either - that's alot of work

I'd guesstimate that a local upholsterer could probably create a reasonably similar quality sectional with simpler legs for @ $5000-6000 (Depending on fabric & cushioning - Add another $2000 for leather).

If you're hoping for the $2000-$3000 range for something in "leather", you'll be looking at cheap Chinese imports that are 1/2 covered in vinyl.

Though less modern looking, Room & board has something similar (good quality, tufted & nice looking legs) sectional.

The BIG advantage of this one over many other sectionals is that it can work separately or together just as well. Most sectionals look like their arms have been amputated if you arrange them seperately.

as bepsf notes special elements like the legs & upholstery on the original will cost you but the macy's sofa posted above by eco5 lookwise seems a decent substitute for a fraction of the cost.

I like the tables shown in the pic....but wonder how sensible they are for placing drinks due to the slope.

Yes, I saw those tables in an advert in Metropolitan Home. What are the tables? I'm sure I can't afford them, but I'd like to know anyway.
