Good Questions: Where To Find Old School Lockers?

Pin it button big

Hi AT!

Here's my situation: I need a coat rack. Here's my problem: I hate coat racks. I think I hate them because they're usually pretty ugly, especially when empty.

I have lots of space in my apartment, and it occured to me that something that might solve my problem would be a row of 2-4 school lockers. Unique, as I've never seen them in an apartment before; can be painted of tarted/funked up; look neat when closed; hold coats and shoes and whatnot as a bonus.

So... how the hell would I go about finding some old school lockers for purchase. Any ideas? I'm in Toronto, btw.

Thanks! dobbs

Dear Dobbs,

Before you go for the lockers, consider how noisy that metal can be AND they are usually pretty slim, which doesn't give tons of space for overcoats and bulky items. We prefer a nice long row of funky or modern hook - too many - so that the hooks and the horizontal line they create become a design element.

That said the place to get real nice school lockers is Los Angeles. Here are the places you should look at:

Twenty Gauge
Steel Casey
Here's a post roundup we did of a bunch....

Anyone else??
