Q: I'm moving into a house with a wood burning fireplace and find myself in need a fireplace tool set. I'm having a hard time find one that is modern or Scandinavian modern for under like $1,000. Under a $150 would be more inline with my budget. Does anyone know where of any great looking sets out there? Thanks.

Ercol Bar Stool
So funny that this is on the front page here, as last night my friend and I were slack jawed at the price of fireplace tools, especially stainless steel, polished nickel or anything that looked "silver".
Target made the BEST set but they are currently out of stock, but here is the link in case they get more: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/185-8343365-7470022?ASIN=B000FPXDW2&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B000FPXDW2|Soft_Modern_5pc._Fireplace_Tool_Set&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B000FPXDW2&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

Good luck! We are going to need some as well, and I just can't believe it. I didn't find much luck on ebay either...

Whatever about the fire irons, I love those tiles in the main picture.
Crazy, I just purchased the contemporary circle set from Target, it was missing one tool and they sent out another set.
My question is, where are those tiles on the surround from?
the above northlineexpress link/set is a near-dead-copy of a set we bought as a "george nelson" set recently... save the handles -- which are cylindrical and black (on ours)... if you're looking for MCM, those are them.

Ditto on the tools and screen but those tiles on the surround -ooh-la-la! I join the chorus: what and where?
Check chiasso.com
The tiles looks like Heath Ceramics in California. When I was renovating my home I used to visit the Heath website and drool.
the tiles are indeed heath. (a 3X9 oval: http://heathceramics.com/go/heath/tile/tile-sizes/)
I KNOW I KNOW!
those tiles are from Ann Sacks.

go to "decorative tiles" option. that tile is the oval 3x9
For all of us lucky Californians...Heath has an outlet store....Those tiles are Gorgeous....
I have one!
They're out there, you just have to look hard! I did a fireplace-accessories-on-a-budget post recently, including a modern screen and tool set. I was surprised at the low prices I was able to find with a bit of digging.

I actually saw these on etsy this morning:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=36835435
They are handmade...polished steel with copper accents and hang from the stand in a really unique way. Very cool!
They are $325, but this seems reasonable for a handmade product and since you can communicate with the seller directly he might be willing to cut you a deal.
Good luck!
Love the Bark Hearth Set from Roost:

Wow, I think that some of these are cool, but they are still super expensive. Wasn't a low budget the point? You can find many great fireplace tool sets if you pay over $300. I do like set that farmhousemoderne blogged about as well, but Chiasso for instance...there's are well over 400 bucks.
I can't believe that northline express set is such a dead ringer for the george nelson one. Wow. That was actually the one I was planning on getting. We have a black Malm fireplace at our new house and I needed to find a set as well and was flabbergasted at the prices...
for fireplace tools??
