Q: Hi Apartment Therapy Readers — please help me with your wonderful advice! I am finally a homeowner and I want to find the perfect bed for my new apartment. ABC Carpet and Home has my dream bed — pure savasana queen bed — but it is unfortunately out of my price range. I love the shape of the headboard and the beautiful legs. Does anyone know of a better priced alternative that is still good quality? Thanks for the help!

Ballard Designs has an inexpensive (and pretty good quality) alternative: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/comShop/customProdAction.do%3Faction%3DinitCustom?ruleID=2357&itemType=PRODUCT&itemID=1058&path=1%2C2%2C1443%2C1471&iProductID=1058
Yes, Ballard Designs' "Camden Tufted Bed" is a good alternative. I've never bought furniture from them, but I've purchased other items from them and can vouch for the quality of their fabrics.
Pretty sure there have been a couple DIY tutorials on AT in the past that would work for the headboard, but you might have to compromise on the legs, unless you want to make those too.
i agree with thistlefinch, you could totally make a variation of this on your own.
Yeah, and you could weave your own linen! Cool!
I just got a headboard from Target.com (yes Target) but you can buy the whole bed. It's not a real platform bed however, but the frame part is upholstered to match the headboard. http://www.target.com/s/183-7981797-5396206?_encoding=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&keywords=velvet%20tufted%20bed&searchSize=30&ref=sr_bx%5F1%5F1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=1038576&searchPage=1&searchRank=target104545
You could buy a similar headboard from urban outfitters
http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?itemdescription=true&itemCount=60&startValue=1&selectedProductColor=&sortby=&id=14182471&parentid=A_FURN_FURNITURE_BED&sortProperties= subCategoryPosition,&navCount=114&navAction=poppushpushpush&color=&pushId=A_FURN_FURNITURE_BED&popId=A_FURN_FURNITURE&prepushId=APARTMENT_FURNISH
You could purchase an upholstered platform bed w/ tufted headboard and simply switch out the legs.
You can find several different styles and sizes of legs at your local home improvement store, and thousands online.
A few beds you could do this with:

All of them are along the lines of what you are looking for, and come in a variety of colors. By adding different legs....you would have your dream bed.
good luck!
Patrick - You're too funny!
Try Googling "Upholstered Tufted Bed" and see what comes up...
If you're in the mood to buy and not make, there's a similar bed on LaylaGrace.com but it's cream.
I bought the Seville tufted bed from Target. Surprisingly sturdy. Mom loves it.
actually, my husband and I did an IKEA hack and made something similar. Bought the bed and them changed out the feet and added an upholstered headboard. Voila!
