Q: I have obsessively been hunting in stores and online for a black dining table for two months now. The look I'm going for is "modern baroque". Ideally something that matches these Craigslist chairs I repainted and reupholstered. I am totally in love with this table by Calligaris for Jensen-Lewis but the price tag is much too steep for me — over $800. Does anyone have any recommendations for a similar look but for a bargain price of $400 or so? Please help. I am dying to invite friends over for dinner but as of now…I've no table to put the food out! Thanks!

Editor: For a "Modern Baroque" look you should most definitely check out the offerings from Brocade Home and Z Gallerie:
• Square Silhouette Table - $399 from Brocade Home
• Square Turned Leg Dining Table - $499 from Brocade Home
• Silhouette Dining Table $399 from ZGallerie
Does anyone else have advice for Christine?

sorry i don't have suggestions, but i do have a comment - those chairs look great!!!!!!!!! you did an awesome job with them. i love em!
Ditto with karen2980 - the chairs look great. My vote is for the table from Z Gallery.
You could find an ornate table base or legs and have a top cut from opaque plexi, glass, or some type of resin-based material. I think a glass shop could do it for you. Your chairs look fabulous!
ikea $169:

(If the ikea table is too narrow, you could buy the cheaper $139 one and just use the legs with your own table top.)
I have the ikea table home body mentioned, and I love it. You actually buy the legs and top separately, so it's possible to just get the legs if you wanted a different top.
The chairs are awesome! I love them so much. I am intrigued to see more of your space.
I have a couple of ideas:
1. The IKEA table is great, but I would opt for painting it a vibrant color in a high gloss spray paint. Yellow? Deep purple? Depending on the size/scale of your room, it'd be better if it was round. Round is such a great option for 9 out of 10 rooms, mostly as it offers such great conversationalist tendencies to dinner parties and game nights. If you do opt for rectangle, I would go for captain's chairs in a contrast (size/scale/color/texture/etc).
2. Find a round table on craigslist. Paint it high gloss <insert color>. There are tons of regency and French options on craigslist for low cost, and you'd be repurposing something that might add more sentimental value to your space.
3. Create tension by doing something rustic, primitive and distressed. It could be a bit too shabby depending on your style, but I can see a distressed table with a sexy table-scape on top with baroque style vases and/or modern flowers.
Off to a great start, have fun!

Great suggestion - Not everything has to come from a store.
Thanks bepsf!

I love the chairs! Great job. I like zeb's suggestion much more interesting than the Ikea table.
This light would go with your theme

If you are open to a very large rectangular table, the black Calmont Dining Table at Pier One is on clearance for $349.98 and has beautiful lines. I saw it in the midtown NYC store and was impressed with how solid and well made it seems, including the finish. The finish is beautiful. You can see it online:

I'm in the same boat as her, I have been obsessively also looking for a baroque table, but I will be more specific, I want it to look much like the discontinued Calmont table from Pier 1. I want a rectangle formal high gloss black baroque looking table. I can not for the life of me find one that is under a thousand dollars and able to ship to the US. Anyone have one they want to sell me from Pier 1 etc?
