Q: I discovered this neat couch and its two matching chairs in a brocante here in Nice, France this weekend. I could hardly believe my luck; they were sold as a set for only €50! My question is, does anyone know what style this is? I've seen chairs with curved wooden armrests like these, but never "doubled" with an upholstered arm beneath them. The pieces evoke mid century and Danish modern for me, but not quite — they may be from a later period?…

…The legs are wood as well, and covered in the same velvet as the couch and chairs (darker because they had been hidden from light by a gold-brown fringe until I took it off). I'm pretty sure the brown velvet is a recent addition, since it's in perfect condition on all three pieces. The cushions are mine. (Please excuse the state of the wall behind the chairs! I'm in the process of scraping off textured paint in order to redo the area.)
Many thanks!

Art Deco. From the blonde wood tone on the arms, 1940s. They would look amazing in a deep blue crushed chenille.
I can't help, but I want you to know that they are gorgeous! Great find!!
Definitely Art Deco. They are really fab.
I agree with Art Deco. If you're recovering them (which would be well worth the price, especially considering what you paid) I'd keep the chairs a different color from the sofa to avoid too much of a "set" look. This is one of those great finds that's becoming more and more rare! Congrats.
Art Deco...and I'm kinda feelin' those walls!
Yes - They're 40's French Art Deco.
40s Deco was my guess, too. I also agree they would look amazing upholstered in deep sapphire blue.
Anna here - great, thank you all! What a neat coincidence, since my apartment building is Art Deco as well (built in 1953 though). Pic here if anyone would like to see it:

Those are real, quarried stones; two feet thick!
I've visited this large secondhand shop regularly for the last 7 years, and had never seen anything like this set. They usually have a lot of Louis XIV, XV and XVI furniture, as well as contemporary stuff, not much in between. I do plan to reupholster them eventually, thanks for the recommendations!
I definitely agree with a deep blue tone for the reupholstery. They are very unique pieces, good find!
great find! If you ever want to get rid of them, let me know!!!! I would love to have those pieces!!!
