Q: I was hoping that you could help me out with a coffee table dilemma. I have just moved into a new apartment, the first one on my own since moving to NYC (yay!). When I was visualizing the space before I moved in, I had picked out the Stash Coffee Table from CB2 (left) , which I love. However, after living in the space for two weeks now, I realize that I probably need something a little narrower than the Stash's 19" depth, which led me to Room & Board's slim cocktail table (right) which is only 12" deep…

…. While the depth is just about perfect, I wish it was a little longer. I'm afraid that it will look a little dinky in my space. Does anyone have suggestions for a coffee table or bench that is somewhere in between these two tables? I love the dark grey/ raw steel color of both and the lightness to the legs that they both have. Thanks so much.

If your space is narrow, actually, don't bother on a coffee table just to make the room "look together". That's what rugs are for. You'll have a lot more space.....
What you can do is get a pair (not necessarily matched) of side tables, or puffs, or those ceramic chinese stools and move them around when needed. They'll fill your need for something in front of the couch, they can get out of the way if they have too and they can do a lot more than just holding a book and a drink.
Cutting the legs off a wall console table world probably work. This may be harder to do with steel, but there's always steel colored paint!

I'm not sure. I know that it doesn't fit into the super contemporary. But with the urban feel, you could try making something out of a door. It looks like you're looking for something glass though?

My husband and I are building a house and always on the lookout for furniture to fill it (some day). We fell in love with this coffee table but think it's too long for our space. It might work for yours (but it is a bit wider than the one you're showing). It's made from reclaimed wood so it's very eco-friendly. While the material isn't modern, I think the lines on it are. http://environmentfurniture.com/collection/category/coffee-tables/eclipse-coffee-table
You could also try getting two of the Stash tables, or look for an oval ottoman or table. That shape is a bit more modern.
I think femmeke's idea of reworking a console table is probably going to be your easiest bet.
I think Room & Board has a few styles of table which they will custom size, and this may be one.
If that turns out to be cost prohibitive, don't worry about the piece looking too small... you can always round out the area with a cube (perhaps with storage capabilities) that will offset the table's lack of length.
And if you need any more design help, look me up! :)
Btw, I loves me some CB2, but I have never been a fan of that table. It looks like a temporary tray table (and "placeholder") to me.
We needed a very slim coffee table in our living room and after finding nothiing in our price range, we stumbled upon a simple bench in some store's dining room section. Not the greatest picture in the world but you get the idea here.
Just another nod to looking in unconventional places for pieces if you're not finding something easily.
I have the Slim coffee table. I like it, but even in my tiny living room it feels disproportionately small. CB2 used to have an "Urban coffee table" that was a similar look but better proportions (though it was grey powdercoat instead of raw steel) but it looks like they've discontinued it:

What about cb2 peekaboo coffee table its 13.5" d and it works great for small spaces and you could add a ottoman cube to one side.

Or if you really need the length the George Nelson bench is very functional and can be used elsewhere as a bench or table.
Thanks for the suggestions so far!
manu_pty - my space is narrow, but not narrow enough to go with out a coffee table/ bench or something. I like the idea of ceramic stools - I hadn't thought of that.
femmeke - great idea about chopping down a console.
honey living - I am definitely open to two small tables. Just haven't found the right thing!
p(too) - I'll definitely look at R & B custom options. I haven't really explored that. It's funny, I sort of felt the same way you do about the Stash, I didn't look twice at it in the catalog, but for some reason when I saw it in person my whole perception of it changed and I fell in love!
Laina - that's exactly what I was afraid of. Nice to hear from someone who owns the table.
Thanks again and I look forward to seeing what else you come up with!
Have you considered a long oval coffee table?
@LoriSF, isn't 13.75in the height, and 21.25" the depth? I also like the peekaboo series and thought the console table might do, but it's 18in deep which isn't much less than 19in, obv.
lepidoptery - duh yes you are so right! I don't know what I was thinking because I think I saw one somewhere that was narrow. Thanks
A vintage sled?
My husband and I had this same problem, and we ended up using a bench, which has worked out wonderfully! This one would look gorgeous http://environmentfurniture.com/collection/knightsbridge-bench
