Q: My dad (a contractor) is taking advantage of the lull in the building market to renovate my bathroom! We're doing it as cheaply as possible (with a few high quality splurges), and we're getting to the point where I have to pick a paint color — I'm stumped!…

…Wainscoting is out of the question — there's no room to fit it behind the toilet (I asked. Twice). The green tile (see pics) was a deal - cap tiles usually cost $2+ a piece, I got them for 25cents each at Community Forklift in Hyattsville! Rest of the shower tile was Habitat ReStore and Craigslist, also a deal. Vanity was a floor model at 70% off. Toilet and shower receiver were the splurges: toilet is a Sloan Flushmate (uses water pressure to power a better flush), extra tall and oval seat. Shower pan is cast iron enamel. Floor tile was leftover from a previous job dad worked on — it's a tiny bathroom, we had just enough. New window was $20 at Habitat ReStore. All hardware is shiny nickel, and the shower enclosure will be another splurge — glass. I'm thinking a tiny chandelier in the middle of the ceiling, and two glass fixtures on either side of the mirror (unpictured, matches the vanity).
I was originally going to do white wainscoting and pale green (2-3 shades lighter green than the tile) above it, maybe stenciled in lace pattern, but now that the paint is going to be right up against the tile, I'm a bit scared to do that! Help? Thanks! Joelle
