Q: Why is it so hard to find a nice and affordable regency-style rug? I love the one in the picture from Small Space Solution: Consider a Settee. Any suggestions for online sources?

Editor: Rugs are expensive — but a good one will last you a long time. I recently bought THREE new rugs when the Conran Store had their massive moving sale in NYC. For a 'Hollwood Regency' style rug, I would look at these sources:
JONATHAN ADLER Almost all of Jonathan Adler's rugs qualify as 'Hollywood Regency' and you have the option of designing your own.
URBAN OUTFITTERS While lacking in true rug quality, the selection is vast and the prices are low.
Who else has a source suggestions for Gabriel?

I recently purchased a rug on eBay. It was pricey, but less so than when it was originally sold at Pottery Barn. If you know of a particular rug, you may be able to type in the brand name and find someone that has it for sale.
Try Ballard Designs http://www.ballarddesigns.com/Rugs/c/1466?path=1%2C2%2C1466
Affordable is relative. What is your definition of affordable?
Try HomeGoods. And believe it or not Home Depot and Lowes actually have a few semi decent area rugs.
i'd check:
worldmarket.com
westelm.com
target.com
homedecorators.com
Consider a plain carpet that will set off the frills and furbelows of your Regency furnishings and accessories. You can get one cut and bound to measure at any carpet retailer or even Home Depot, in any color you please, and that is a thrifty way to go.
I have had the same dilemma, Gabriel. I really like the Lattice Style by FLOR. It's by Martha Stewart (I know she's not really known for Hollywood Regency!) Good luck with your hunt!
Company C also has a few.
You might also check Overstock.com - I found some pretty well-priced rugs there.
The rugs on Jonathan Adler's website ranged from $700 to $2400 plus. To me, that is not at all an affordable option for a rug. I agree with above, that Target and Lowes have some decent choices if you search.
I've had good luck with RugsUSA.com but I don't know if they specifically have regency style rugs. Might be worth a look, they have a huge selection.
Check out the Bogart Flat-Weave wool rug at Garnet Hill.

I just got the best bargain at Overstock. An 8x10 wool Safavieh rug for $325. Probably retailed for $2,000 and looks every bit as expensive. I ordered a 2x3 to check color, then ordered the big one and returned the "sample."
I also found a runner at overstock.com. The price was right and good quality.
They often have rug sales on giltgroup.com, but the prices vary.
A note on the Bogart Flat-Weave wool rug at Garnet Hill -- I bought this rug on Rue La La not long ago and it is incredibly uncomfortable. Great design, but it's like walking on sandpaper.
I would have to agree with the other posters on overstock.com...on another note...I love that lamp on the left..was that a DIY or does anyone know the source?
I know it's a long shot to expect to find a rug you love at Target, but if you do, they have a coupon for 25% off any rug purchase of $50 or more here: http://coupons.target.com/mcp/pd.cfm?encp=bw3Edh8NsU3vzmfu%2BCqxk1gE5kAdfbx6dC45DH8m6FuvNQDwYVl3xOH31DkRj79yzb%2BSNmiA400y%0D%0ALhj%2FXmLy92%2BB1rRbQCjSNbwgtkXtsTkqM4Okg78POA%3D%3D
Hope that helps!
I think the reason why good rugs are so expensive is that it's not an accessory that people just change with the season. Rugs are there to stay. I made the bad choice of going with a cheaper west elm rug and it started shedding constantly. I had tons of light green dust bunnies for 2 years. I finally gave up on the thing and bought a relatively expensive one and have not regretted because I won't be replacing for years.

Most flat-weave wools are not luxurious in feel.

The style of the rug, not just the vendor, also plays a big part in whether a rug will shed.
Overstock.com is a pretty decent resource. Here's one not far off from the picture (pattern-wise): http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Spello-Chains-Driftwood-Rug-5-x-8/4134875/product.html
