Hi AT,
My bedroom is 11x12 feet, ie small, with a small closet. Do you have any tips for a queen sized bed with drawers underneath in a clean "modern" style without breaking the apartment sized budget?
Thanks, Adda

Dear Adda,
The best-looking bed-with-drawers we know of is the bamboo John Kelly Tau platform bed, but it's not exactly cheap. (The best price we've seen is $2,209, at USMatttress.com.) A more affordable option is a "Captain's Bed." FoamOrder, which has a showroom in SOMA, makes an unusual one that's Japanese-inspired. It's $780 and can be topped with either a conventional mattress or with tatami mats and a thick futon, a combo that's super comfy if you like a firm bed.
Anyone else?

The <A HREF="http://www.doorstorefurniture.com/tranquility.html">Tranquility bed from the Door Store</A> looks like it might be the nicest one.
Has anyone seen it? How does the amount of storage compare to that in the <A HREF="http://www.westelm.com/online/store/ProductDisplay~17001~17002~WE-PRODf577~E~-1~6580701~search-_-engine-_-natural-_-search">storage bed from West Elm</A> and the <A HREF="http://www.gothiccabinetcraft.com/platform-drawers-queen-p-1659.html">platform storage bed from Gothic</A>?
I saw a great idea in, I think, the Pottery Barn storage & organization book, if you're handy and so inclined -- the higher your bed, the better:
Get a piece of plywood roughly the size of the space under your bed (allowing for the legs) and screw four castors on each corner. Attach a drawer pull to the front. Whenever you need to access the storage under your bed, you just pull it out - you can store your things in baskets or rubbermaid containers or whatever you like.
Castors have solved many a storage problem in our place.
Try any of the storage beds at Click 4 Beds theres some innovative storage mechanisms in there from the standard pull out drawers to high frames that support loose boxes underneath and some nice gas lift storage beds that make use of the entire space beneath the mattress (the whole bed lifts up)
hope that helps.
