Good Questions: Find My Tivo a Home

Hi AT, I'm addicted to AT and check in a few times a day, so I thought I'd finally post my own good question. My husband and I are nearly finished renovating our fireplace (we completely demo-ed ugly brick surround with raised hearth with oak mantle.) We mounted our flat panel tv above mantle and now we need to find a storage solution for the tivo receiver and dvd player which are now just sitting on the floor. We want to find something that will go to the left of the fireplace where the components are now. The space is about 35" wide, so we need it to be narrower than that. Can't seem to find anything that isn't too expensive and where the components can sit on shelf underneath and not just on top of a table. Also anyone know of a fireplace screen like the one in my photo (I've photoshopped this one in. I love it but it's $1300- ouch! from The Woven Company) Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Kricket

Dear Kricket, Our initial thought was get those components into a cabinet out of sight! But we quickly realized you're going to have to have some sort of line-of-sight to be able to operate the Tivo. So we put our thinking cap on and set out in search of an attractive end table with a slim shelf that would camouflage the components nicely. However, open shelves means more cord exposure and no opportunity to hide the cord clutter. So, choose wisely. A heavier table with some sort of enclosed shelves may provide you with the cord cover you need. Here are a few ideas to get you started: • West Elm's Narrow Leg End TableUrban Outfitters Danish Modern Side TableIKEA's Lack TV TableCB2's Outline Side Table Readers, help us out! Surely there are many more solutions than the one's we've just found.
