Dear AT,
I love your blog. I read a bunch of design blogs, but I love that yours actually contemplates real design questions specific to the tiny living in lovely San Francisco.
Sometimes, in reading people's posts, I find myself thinking a) I have that problem too! and b) it'd be easier if I could just see it; SF is only 7 miles, this person probably lives around the corner.
So...what if some of us formed a small group, sort of like a touring dinner group, to have dinner or cocktails at peoples' houses and talk about design questions? I'm not quite sure how it would work; it'd have to be a small group to avoid being unwieldy. . .

. . .I'm thinking more like, for instance, I am completely stumped on my bedroom; I'd love to get the thoughts of others equally interested in design who don't think I'm nuts for caring so much about the design of my rental apartment. And then maybe someone else wants input on her bathroom or his kitchen...I'm not sure if folks would be interested or how to go about it. . .What are your thoughts?

so long as you travel to birmingham. ;-)
I think this is a great idea, but maybe could be organized by neighborhood? (I'm in Oakland, for example, and while I don't mind going into San Francisco, I notice that people don't love coming out to Oakland.)
Elizabeth: I am in Oakland, we can do an east bay group.
I'm totally game. I'm in SF now, moving to Berkeley in August. I could definitely use some more people to bounce ideas off of. Maybe start a meetup.com group?
Another Oaklander here who would also be game!

I'm in Berkeley and I'd be into this for sure.
I'm in Berkeley as well. I'm intrigued by the idea, but a little leery of inviting people into my physical house via a posting on a very public website. Maybe I'm just paranoid?
well, maybe it doesn't necessarily have to be in someone's home to start. it's so pretty outside, maybe the first meeting could be out in a park somewhere? bring photos?
meeting in someone's home seems to make the most sense, but i can appreciate the apprehension.
how to people feel about a general SF group versus a SF group, an east bay group, etc.?
My friends would be most grateful. They are sick of my asking them for design advice and ideas. (We're in SF.)
I'm in SF--count me in too!
I'm in! I live in Mission Dolores area.
I'm in for an East Bay group (I'm in Oakland).
Great idea!
Count me in, I live on the North Peninsula so SF's easily doable for me, even if I have to catch up with you after the first meeting (traveling for business a lot right now).
i love going to Oakland; i hope there are not separate bay area groups.
i'd love to meet other local decor/design crazy people, but can't go to DWR tomorrow.
Let me know if you guys set something up in San Francisco i'm always up for brainstorming solutions to decor questions.
im in boston and im up for it - will try to start one here...
great idea. We will be moving places this summer so I know that I'll need lots of new ideas.
Great! Ok, when should we meet, and where? Next week? Later? During the week or on the weekend? This weekend is out for me, but it shouldn't be too hard to coordinate something. It sounds like it would be a big group, so unless someone has a massive place where they can host, maybe a grab blankets and chill in a park somewhere?
I usually find that weekday evenings are good for getting together large groups, people are less likely to have plans. A park sounds good, or a bar?
