Signe emailed us a good question: Hi AT, My husband and I are newlyweds and we just bought a California King bed. I have been searching online for a brown coverlet in a California King for a reasonable price and have been unable to find one. Most of the sizes are just King coverlets that are not really big enough for nice coverage. Do you have any ideas of where we could look? Thanks so much for your help! Signe, congratulations on the wedding! We found the brown coverlet featured above in a California King size... ...it is called Retrospect, and it sells for $179.99. But it's not that simple, as you have discovered, since the same size Retrospect coverlet is also sold as the regular King size. The difference between a King and California King mattress is really just he configuration of length and width. Here is the scoop: King is 76 inches wide x 80 inches long, where a Cal King is 72 inches wide x 84 inches long. So, by choosing a Cal King you are gaining in length but it is narrower in width. Therefore, in most cases, there is no distinction made between King and Cal King comforters and coverlets when it comes to sizing. In researching this, we've found a range goes anywhere from 90x108 to 90x110 to 94x106 to 95x111 to 104x112, depending on the manufacturer, whether described as King or Cal King...so there is not a definitive answer to sizing here, other than your preference. Can anyone recommend a source for more generously sized comforters or coverlets for Signe to take a look at?
