Good Questions: What Colors to Go with This Couch?

Dear AT,

I love this couch. What should i do with it? I am moving into a bigger apartment on the 15th and have been shopping for furniture lately. I bought this couch. The carpets in the new place are med grey and all of the outside walls are cream city brick, with standard white apartment walls. The ceilings are 16 - 18 ft. high. I really like this couch, it is interesting and different. It is in great shape, no fading etc. What other colors should I use?

I have two espresso color leather club chairs with more modern lines but still very classic and a 2.5 x 4 rectangular ottoman in the same. Any suggestions? I can't send a photo of the place yet because I haven't moved in. I am very anxious. These pics show the couch (still at the previous owner's house).

Thank you,

sarah

Dear Sarah,

We love pops of orange-reds, turquoise and varying shades of green, light woods and sharp, crisp white to go along with a duller green like that of your vintage sofa. We think these color combos modernize without getting drab, common if a room is heavy on browns and greens. With the heaviness of the sofa and dark leather ottoman and club chairs, we think you'll need to make an effort to lighten up the rest of the room.

Marilyn and Peter, winners of last fall's color contest, work with their green sofa (albeit a more sage-y, modern one), and show a great example of this type of color combo (note bright bar countertop):

Anyone else?? What would you do to make this sofa work?
