Hi,
Have you ever seen slipcovers with a modern, clean design? Sure Fit seems to have gotten poor reviews, and have limited sizes.
I have a sofa, chair and a half, and ottoman that are similar to Pottery Barn's Charleston line (see pics). But, the slipcovers have worn out and we desperately need replacements. Ideally something less shaggy chic and more sleek/form fitted.
Perhaps custom sewn slipcovers or upholstery is in order?
Thanks,
Hazel

I haven't seen quality slipcovers with modern clean design, and custom proved too pricey for my budget, but the biggest expense in custom appears to be making the pattern. So just in case you run into the same problems I had, I thought I'd recommend a video I learned from called "Learn to Make Slipcovers" by Clare Driscoll, I initially got it from my local library and then found a $5 copy on eBay. Following Driscoll's instructions, I came up with very fitted slipcovers (so well fitted they look like the furniture is upholstered rather than slipcovered), and now have a pattern for each main piece of furniture. As a novice, at the time, it took me about half a day to work out the pattern for my sofa but I only had to do that once. That was before I had a decent sewing machine, so I took the fabric and pattern to a local dry cleaner, who charged me about $80 to sew the sofa cover together. Now I make them at home so, with the pattern work done, anytime I want a new slipcover it's a fairly easy process. Just a thought, as an alternative, in case readymade or custom don't work out.
Take a look at potatoskins.com They're out of Toronto so be sure to look at the US PRICE LIST when looking at cost. They seem reasonable and not your standard "sure fit" junk.
I haven't ordered from them yet, but I have been looking at these guys to make a custom slipcover for my oversized chaise: http://www.todoes.com
They seem to have a crack customer service team. When they couldn't leave a message on my machine, they sent me a detailed email explaining their pricing.
I paid to have them done professionally (cost about $300) and it was worth every penny. I take them to the laundromat every couple of months and they still look fantastic.
