Good Questions: Are Z Gallerie Sofas a Wise Buy?

Hi Apartment Therapy,

I'm interested in a Z Gallerie sofa, but given the low-ish price I'm nervous it's going to fall apart or be of poor quality. Does any have any advice about their sofas?

athena, my z gallerie sofa doesn't get tons of use, but i've had it for about a year now and so far so good.

I bought a Z Gallerie couch off of craigslist that was about 1 year old. It looked brand new! It's held together fantastically after another year. Sturdy and way cozy.

I can't speak to the quality of the current line of sofas, but I have had zero problems with my z gallerie sofa and I have owned it for almost 9 years. I bought a sofa model called the Kyoto (which is no longer in their line) covered in unbleached (off white) denim. I don't have kids or dogs, so it only gets the wear and tear my lounging or guests sitting. It cost me something in the low to mid $800 dollar range with tax and delivery. Very soft and comfortable, and I believe it has several more years of life left.

It would depend on the sofa. They have a few manufactures that make their sofa's. Some really great, and some not so great.

I haven't bought a sofa, but we've owned a Z gallerie bed for about 3 years, and it's in great shape. The price seems right too.

I bought a Bernhardt love seat at Z Gallerie in 1998. I don't remember the model name but it cost about $1400 and it has feather and foam cushions, easy-to-clean fabric and a mid-20th century shape that I love. I'm not sure if they still carry this brand; it seems everything in ZGal has changed since then!

My tip of the day: I would definitely stay away from Scandinavian Designs. My husband bought a sleeper sofa there less than 5 years ago and it has since fallen apart. Really shoddy stuff.

I bought two Marshall sofas at Z Gallerie about a year ago for a TV/family room and they have held up really well. They don't sell the couches any more, they are huge, modern looking off-white corduroy couches. Their prices are comparable to Room & Board but IMO Room & Board has better quality fabrics, so you might want to look there.

I bought a roll armed sofa at Z-Gallerie 6 years ago. Unfortunately I don't remember the model name, but it is holding up excellently. The piece even survived a recent move with no problems at all.
