Good Questions: Solutions for Under Sink Storage?

Dear AT,

I have a rental and the master bathroom vanity is very open. I could really use the extra storage space. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to cover it up (other than using an unattractive curtain) or more attractive storage solutions under $200?

Dear Lee,

We think Kartell's Componibili units in silver or white would be a great solution. Depending on how much height you have under the sink, you can go for a single, double, or triple-element piece. They are available at Unica Home for between $83 and $145.

Anyone else have some good ideas?

Wow! That is a bizarre vanity. It looks as if the only obstruction underneath the vanity would be the p-trap and the leg on the right.

I would take measurements of the space below and start looking at Ikea inventory for some kind of cabinet you could fit in this space.

If you wanted to get a little adventurous, you could remove the drain underneath the sink and run it through the cabinet.

While I love Kartell's option described above, the Container Store also has some nice drawer options (Juxta) and plastic boxes that stack.

A tailored curtain could look good (made from a stiffish material with no ruffles -- like upholstery fabric). Or you could hang panels from inside the top of the vanity. Plastic or MDF would work, and you could paint them any color. But a curtain would allow for the easiest access.
