Good Questions: Modern Alarm Clocks?

Dear AT,

Making the transition from dorm life to real life isn't an easy one - especially when you're decorating! It's time to replace a college studen't best friend: her alarm clock. Right now, I have an old plastic Timex that is quite the eyesore...

When trying to find a fashionable yet reliable replacement, I'm coming up dry! I would prefer something I could see in the dark yet I don't want the standard digital one with the red lights on it. Anyone know of a nice looking replacement to go with a modern decor?

We didn't have to look too far, as Janel compiled a fantastic Top Ten list of modern alarm clocks back in February.

Anyone else have great suggestions??

I am quickly realizing that this site fixes most design challenges with the waste and purchase method. Whats wrong with your already working clock?

How about using your cell phone as an alarm. It will smaller than most alarm clocks and most can set an mp3 to the alarm..

Isn't it supposed to be bad bedroom feng shui to keep clocks on display? Why not keep the Timex, since it is still functional, and hide it behind a small piece of art standing on an easel? That is what I've done with my old college alarm clock. The art looks lovely on my dreser, and I did not have to trash a perfectly functional clock.

Tinyrobot, I think that if something you own makes you miserable for whatever reason, or simply makes you feel like a schmuck or a poor college student or whatever, you have every reason to replace it. Just put the old object on Freecycle/Craigslist/whatever, thus passing it on to someone who will use and appreciate it.

I had a similar dilemma as my husband and I are trying to (slowly) re-do our bedroom. He wanted a digital clock to make it still easy to read at night and I wanted one that looked nice but didnt cost a fortune. I found this retro looking one on amazon (Bed, Bath and Beyond used to carry it for cheaper but I couldn't find it on their site any more). Here is the link:

I like my <a href-="http://www.nandahome.com/">Clocky</a>. The whole "running away so you'll have to get up and catch it so that the alarm will shut up" is a bit of a novelty for me, but I do like its look.
