Hi Apartment Therapists,
I've acquired a lovely but heavy 4' x 6' pane of glass that i'd like to eventually use as a tabletop. Where can I find a modern (and possibly inexpensive) table base? Is
Room & Board my best option?
danke in advance, d

Dear D,
Room & Board is definitely the only shop we know that is affordable, easy to shop from and offers bases only. "Bases only" is not a typical store product. That said, we have recently purchased a base from Desiron and had it's dimensions customized. Very nice, but more expensive.
Other places to look. We would look online at Craigslist and eBay (search for "coffee table"), see what you find and ask to buy the base only from the seller. They probably won't mind.
Anyone else?

depending on what you are looking for, this guy might be perfect for you:

Ian Mclean seems to have gone missing, as he doesn't respond to emails or phone calls. His website is still up, but I wonder if he has gone out of business.
Try "from the source" in manhattan - they have bases ranging from $175 - $400.
