Elizabeth is looking for some feedback on an IKEA chair. She writes: Are the IKEA Martin chairs any good? Are there other, similar, sturdy kitchen chairs? We have a lovely Room & Board butcher block kitchen table with coordinating chairs, but they are very straight and hence very easily tipped. With a very active 2.5 year old and baby on the way, we're concerned about chairs and their occupants spilling onto the floor....

Putting a booster seat on one would just be out of the question. We'd like to find a cheap solution for some sturdier (wider-legged) chairs that will get us through the next several years.
I'd love to hear anyone's experiences with the IKEA Martin chair (only 29.99 each) before I drive an hour to get there...
Have any info to share with Elizabeth? Let her know in the comments below...thanks!

i have these chairs and a very tall (and strong) 1.5 year old. he pushes them all around the kitchen, but has only managed to tip one over once. we also use it with a booster seat with no problems at all, despite his squirming all around and rocking and kicking. hope this helps!
Anything that catches the floor can tip. It's better to put something under the legs to let the chairs slide.
Elizabeth here... well, we made the trek to IKEA and ended up with the Gilbert chair instead. Incredibly similar (and $49.99), but somehow the extra inch or so on the seat the two piece construction made it more comfortable. Haven't had them long enough to be abused yet (give it another week, right?) but so far, so good.
Thanks!
By the way, the EVERT stool-cum-bucket (that looks like a plastic cup) was the best $4.99 I ever could have spent on a toy for a 2.5 yo!
