AT,
I'm looking for Art Deco fabric in a pattern similar to this one in a variety of colors, preferably mohair but I'll consider all possibilities. I've been Googling for hours and coming up blank. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Keith

for inspiration, i'd recommend any book by judith miller. she's a decorative arts historian and has published a few books through dorling-kindersley, a publisher known for lots and lots of photos in their books. she has one big, general one, and one specifically on deco. if anything, they'd be fun to flip through. also, check out photos of the interior of hearst castle, or erté designs.
as for buying fabric, what about britex or reprodepot? there's also the deco and modernism fair, which won't happen again until december, but they had plenty of deco furniture dealers who might be able to help you. the list some of their dealers on their site, but when i was there, they had a whole list arranged. maybe if you call or email them, they can send you the list they were giving out.
as for the deco style, you have a few different routes you could take. deco basically splits into two categories, cultural and industrial. king tuts' tomb was excavated in 1921, and the world went nuts for anything egyptian, which lead to things asian in general (yes, i know egypt is an african country, but i wasn't around back then to correct them.) as for industrial, it was the economic boom after the industrial revolution, and everyone was very rich, happy, and in love with technology, so anything graphic, linear, sleek and geometric fits. you have sooooo many options.
hope that helps!
Diamond Foam and Fabric has a good selection of deco inspired upholstery fabrics and mohair but they're in LA. Might be worth the trek. 323-931-8148
Decodame.com sells fabric.
Let me get straight to the point.......I LOVE Art Deco fabric and hoave the best source for it on the web. I have always found when buying fabric that a web site called iluvfabrix htp://www.iluvfabrix.com has fabrics that are carefully sourced and they are very clear that they stand behind everythign they sell. Everything there is the highest quality and below wholesale. I bought incredible designer fabric http://www.iluvfabrix.com/products.php there that has proven colorfast even with repeated washings. Hope this helps.
