Jenny sent in an email: I know there is a lotta Ikea shiz on here but I was wondering..Does anyone have an Ikea sofa that they loved or hated? I was just gonna go retro but I found the BEMZ website with the slipcovers for Ikea couches...

Help? Does anyone have experience with Bemz?
So, today it's two questions in one - Ikea sofas you've loved (or hated) and experience with Bemz slipcovers - please feel free to chime in on one or both...thanks!

Klippan all the way! I bought mine used (!) about five years ago and it's still going strong, with constant lounging on my part. Ikea always comes out with new slipcovers, too.
It's not great for napping ('cause the sides are so high), but comfy for everything else.
love my nikkala which i've had for 3 years, and my old roommate has had an ekeskog for five years or so. both still going strong. sadly, ikea no longer makes these sofas so my only option for new slipcovers is bemz. planning on ordering one soon...just need to get over the super-expensive shipping to the u.s.!
I had a Nikkala and it was amazing...... why did Ikea get rid of it?
We had a great ikea sofa that we used for many years and we did buy a Bemz slip cover for it. The quality was good and it looked great. You can order samples from them which is nice and probably recommended since the slip covers aren't cheap. Be very careful when you wash the slip covers because any amount of shrinking will make it very hard to get back on the couch.
My cheap-ass Ektorp is still in my living room, three apartments and six years later. It isn't made of hand-raised Widgy-widgy trees harvested in the waning crescent moon during the cold nights of November, but it works. I like sitting on it. I'm not embarrassed to introduce it to my friends.
I liked my Klippan Leather - but it was too short for napping...
...but now that they have the long version, it would be great if it came in leather too.
All of this is good to know for I'm searching Craig's List for a second hand Klippan - in red leather to replace a bulbous bland, beige sectional that was just too big for my space and really, it did nothing to the room from a style stand point to begin with.
Sold said sectional for $50 on where else, CL!
I am the proud owner of 3 Klippan sofas....2 of them are in my house, the other was shipped off to the husband's office. I have the white furry covers on them right now....they wash well, wear well, and I have 3 boys plus all their friends climbing over them every day. Mine were bought in 1997! Still going strong...
ah. i am short enough to nap on the klippan :D I need a slipcover for mine... anyone ever had one custom made or know of a bemz like person here in the us that will do it?
We just got a new slipcover from Bemz and it's great. We got a bunch of fabric samples from then and went with a nice dark grey color - it looks amazing. The couch is close to 10 years old and I don't remember which style it is but it looks like new now and is still incredibly comfortable.
Another vote for the Klippan. I had one for a four years, and it held up really well. I finally got rid of it because we outgrew it. Sadly it's just a little too small for two people and three dogs to curl up on.
I went through a few different covers. We started with a custom made cover that cost $280 to get made. But I used
really heavy fabric that didn't wash well. So I ordered a Bemz cover, which fit well and was pretty durable and easy to wash.
We have Bemz covers on both our Ekeskog sofa (can it be true that they discontinued it - the only sofa from Ikea that can fit two people leaning against the arm rests with a duvet to keep their feet warm without any of their legs going to sleep or being crushed) and our Ektorp armchair. They're both a very nice quality, however I do find them a little smaller than the original covers, so I guess being careful with washing and accidentally shrinking them is a good tip.
Shipping wasn't that much of an issue since we live in Sweden where Bemz is from. Here, their cheapest range actually nicely matches Ikea's own prices for covers.
I wouldn't recommend the Karlstad. I bought one a little less than four months ago, and it started falling apart almost immediately. Also, the back cushions are too cushy, so after a few days of moderate use they start to smash down and disappear down into the base cushions. It's annoying to have to fluff them up so often.
However, about a month later we bought a couple of leather Klippans at my office, and they seem quite nice. They're relatively comfortable and seem quite sturdy.
I have the Ektorp loveseat. I think it is very comfortable. I've only had it since January, but so far it's holding up fine! There is a perpetual 12 lb cat indent in the back cushions, but they fluff up pretty well.
Can someone please tell me how much Bemz shipping is to the US? I don't want to order anything until I know. I have a bad feeling that it's $$$$. Thanks!
I have the Ektorp and it's fine...comfortable enough and looks nice in my space. Honestly, though, if you can afford more, I'd invest in a better-than-Ikea sofa. I love the Bemz slipcovers ,but they're kind of pricey to go on such low/mid-quality sofas. For the price of a sofa and a Bemz, you could buy yourself a much nicer sofa.
I've got the Nikkala too & I love it! Why did they discontinue it?
I plan on ordering a new slipcover from Bemz soon.
I totally dorked out when I saw my question was posted..Bummer about the Karlstad..that's the one I was lusting after..The Klippan is always on Minneapolis Cl..but my boyfriend hates it..Sigh.
ive got the stockholm couch and chair in the darkest color. i like it, but the sides are high so you need to use a pillow if youre going to nap, or to prop you up at another angle. i have the chair too, the arm big chair. i wouldve gotten a love seat if theyd had one instead of the chair, to seat one more person.
i love it, it fit the bill for our needs and has a 25 year warranty that covers some workmanship, or something, i didnt actually read it, its just a bonus.
I wanna put out some hate for the Klippan.
I just hate it. It's become such an iconic IKEA piece that it's just sort of . . . a joke or something.
I long for the day I can replace it.
(It has held up well and even in white has done me just fine. I'm just so over it, after 6 years.)
Does anyone know any great mid centuryish sofa rescources? Or am I asking too much?
Under a $1000?
I'm asking too much now.
I had a Goteborg (http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/6/61259/37_2007/boring-ikea_0_0.jpg) sofa from Ikea and I absolutely loved it. Two people could sleep on it comfortably. But last year I moved from a 1,500 sq ft loft into a 300 sq ft apartment wherein the sofa wouldn't even fit up the stairs. So sad. If you can find this sofa used (it's been discontinued for the last 4 years or so), get it. It was the best built Ikea sofa my bum ever met. I know I'll never find a sofa I like better.
I want my bum to be as happy as yours.
Anyone have any info on the Manstad? My partner and I really like the fact that it's a sectional, but it's not too big for the space, it's affordable, it's got extra storage, and it's also a pullout bed.
Anyone have any experience with this sofa?

Thanks!
We bought some Tylosand elements secondhand off Craigslist about three years ago now and we've loved them--the cream upholstery has stood up to our daughter and her jumping (the cushion has gotten softer compared to the one next to it she doesnt' like to throw herself onto, but definitely still usable) and we also found a complete set of the dark grey upholstery for something like $10 in AS-IS.
We use a lot of pillows with them, and got the headrest for one area which we love, my 6'4" can take a nap on it (we have a chaise next to a one-armed sofa) and guests can even sleep on them in a pinch and not whine.
My Tullsta chairs from IKEA are the perfect color and perfect shape for my living room, but the slipcovers always look rumpled and wrinkly and ill-fitting. The Bemz ones look good in the catalog pictures but not so great in the customer pictures. What can I do other than wait for IKEA to introduce upholstered versions in new colors?
We bought an IKEA Säter Sofa, today! Does anyone have experience owning one?
I'm curious how they hold up over time. So far we are happily surprised how comfy it is (leather sofas being new to us) and we love the clean lines and legs creating more visual floorspace than our old sofa. One thing though, it really annoys me to have a sofa with sewn on cushions that I can't flip so I'm thinking to cut them loose.
Also any ideas of ottomans for the Säter?
Another strong for Klippan.
Had it about a year, with the red cover. Love that when I get sick of it, I can just change the slip cover... Especially since my current one is showing wear and bagging out a bit by the arms.
And personally, I think Bemz is overpriced. I'll stick with the $50-ish cover from IKEA.
Hello .
I found this company www.weuweu.com , they are in USA. I bought a slipcovers for my Klippan loveseat and for Poang chair for $75 and $60. The fabric is AMAZING from Ralph Lauren upholstery, 100% linen, not washable, but it's treated to resist staining.
I was thinking of ordering a cover from Bemz for Kramfors sectional, even though shipping is $100. But then, I saw this message on their site:
"Customers that reside in USA, Canada, Norway and Switzerland are responsible for any customs fees and import taxes, if applicable."
Do any of you have experience with buying from Bemz and having to pay custom/import fees??
I recently purchased a MÅNSTAD and love it but to FLORVÅG full size mattress for when I use the sofa as a sofa bed... Amazing sofa bed and great little mattress.
