Good Questions: Cleaning Wood Blinds?

Danielle has a good question: Do you have any tips on how to clean wood blinds? We have them in two rooms and all are covered in dust. Plus, I'm even more embarrassed to admit, the kitchen ones also have a light film of grease thanks to our non-venting stove hood.

I've tried dusting them, but with the cords running through them, it never seems like I'm doing a very good job. Please help!

for the ones not in the kitchen..

used dryer sheets!

I use cotton gardening gloves. Put them on, get them damp, and run your fingers along the slats. For the greasy shades, spray them with the cleaning product of your preference.

How about pledge wipes? Probably not "green", but the citrus ones smell nice :)

when i moved out of my last apartment, the only thing that would clean them was to put them all in the bathtub, soak, and scrub. My new apartment has them too (blah)

When I clean my blinds, I take them down, hang up in shower/bathtub against the wall, scrub with dish washing liquid, rinse with shower head attachment, dry, hang them back up.

The other day I used the upholstery attachement of the vacuum to dust/clean some very dusty wooden shutters, and it worked quite well.

I've used the glove technique too. Mine are surprisingly grimy too, even though they're in the living room! My mom uses a special tool for cleaning these â€“ it's like a multi-layer swiffer duster.

use the pledge duster, it's amazing!!! it traps the dust and doesn't just brush it back in the air for you to breathe in.
