AT,
I have a new Mission style futon frame which is well made and attractive. I also have Bernardeen, a Basset Hound who is well made and attractive. She sleeps on top of the back of the futon so she can look out the window. Result: a squished couch with lumps on the back. Isn't the difference between a futon and a couch the cushions? Could I get regular cushions made and turn my futon into a couch? (I don't use it for sleeping, and even if I did, it's big enough to sleep on folded up.)
Thanks,
Judy
Judy,
Sure. But we have a hunch you'll end up with Bernardeen-squished cushions instead of a Bernardeen-squished futon. Unless you have the cushions made of high-density foam, which isn't very comfortable.
Anyone have other ideas?

the cushions on my couch was previously squished by mother's overweight lab/dalmation, Sophie. it's a very nice down couch and let me tell you, since i can't really afford to have the couch restuffed this year, it is TOP PRIORITY because it has pretty much ruined the couch. not really, but it's pretty darn annoying. no help, but letting you know that cushions aren't the answer. unless they were never to be used for anyother purpose, you could use a peice of wooden board in the middle with foam on all sides, and maybe some down/cotton to round it out. that might work. then they would not be squishable.
Seems like it would be easier to train the dog to stay off of the sofa.
I couldn't move the window. The sofa doesn't fit anywhere else. I couldn't convince the cats to stay OFF the sofa and OUT of the viewing range of the outside (AKA Cat TV). Thus, I moved the sofa out about 8 inches, repurposed two stained pine waterbed side rails to make a "shelf" level with the window ledge. If someone looks over the sofa, they simply see a nicely stained wood shelf (with a cat blanket or two). Best of all -- no squished cushions and no constant vacuuming of cat hair from the furniture. In exchange for the window seat, the cats warm my feet on cold winter nights! :)
Genius, Peardown! Perfect solution.
Bernardeen is beautiful.
