Yes, that light is just missing it's milk glass cover. And probably the little decorative nut that holds the cover in place.

Of course, if you want something totally different...seems to me you can pick anything you like and utilize the existing hardwiring.

I suppose I should have mentioned that there are several different style glass covers - from weird plates to old "schoolhouse" lights. That's the sort we have in our house. More a bowl than a plate.

I have the same problem, I can't even find just nice cover that screw on. Every night I look up at this horrible frosted rose lattice cover in my bedroom... How is it that us renters have to always put up with weird lighting and pink and black bathroom tiles???

Are you able to cut the electricity off to that circuit? Do you rent or own your place? Are you looking to make all your light fixtures the same?

Changing out the fixture is probably the easiest electrical-type task to do in a home. If there is a Home Depot or Lowes or Ikea big box store near you, they've all got tons of lighting options at all kinds of price points; you'll just need to pick one. Or you could just buy a new style of glass plate/bowl and screw it on.

If you're renting, i would assume you need to clear it with your landlord first.

I wonder if an artisan on Etsy couldn't make you a one-of-a-kind glass cover? (I've been wanting to get a glassblower to make me new doorknobs, so I have artisanal glass on the brain.)

Your not the only ones. Before we bought our place almost every home we saw that didn't have a bathroom reno within the last 5 years had pink tiles. I don't know if there was a national sale on pink tiles that spanned a decade but somehow very few bathrooms escaped it.

Yeah, I was about to ask how I can get a pink bathroom instead of pottery barn and 70s brown mix and not quite match combo.

I had the same kind of fixtures in my last apartment hallway. I just thumb-tacked a loop of paper over them, using medical exam table paper and white tacks. It was simple and anonymous and cost about a dime.

Paper options are safer if you use CFL's because they're not as hot as incandescent bulbs.

Ashley, I had the same fixture with a broken, ugly cover and only could find ugly, cheap replacements. I didn't feel comfortable swapping it out as the original has old wiring. In the meantime, my mom had a lamp shade she rec'd for free, so I swiped it, as well as a coupling nut, a longer lamp nipple, and a nut and here's what I did:

I cut out a ton of felt circles then used hot glue to attach them to a fabric shade that had the correct fitting for the ceiling fixture (exactly like the one shown in the original post) It cost me about 15 bucks total.
