Q: My oh so sweet husband would like two rockers/gliders in our baby's nursery so he can keep me company while I nurse. While I love his idea, the OCD decorator in me isn't sure how to make this work! I'm worried that two matching chairs will look silly, but can't think of or find a combination of chairs that would work. Help, please!

I am in the process of setting up a nursery now, and I must admit that I like your husbands idea and may have to use it!
What about putting a loveseat? I have seen loveseat rockers before, but they are uncommon. Perhaps you can mod a loveseat of your liking with rocker legs...
That is actually a great idea! I didn't plan for two chairs, and we ended up brining in a beatup old director's chair so I could have visitors in the nursery while I nursed. Kudos to your husband for thinking ahead!
What about having one high-back rocker in the nursery for rocking when you and baby are both tired, plus an Eames rocker in the living room so your husband can sit on the couch (and you can take turns rocking the baby).
I use loveseats so the husband & wife can share these precious moments with the baby. However if you must have a rocker, there are Adirondack double rockers and the 50's style metal gliders for 2. Hope this helps.
I tried to nurse in a rocker, but found my spot on one specific side of our loveseat. My daughter didn't need the rocking to get to sleep.
The 5-year-old kid in me wants to suggest installing a porch swing. . .

Why sequester yourselves in the nursery? I think that will get old fast. Put your rocker in the living room to nurse.

I agree with slobound. I wouldn't want to be stuck in the nursery all of the time. One rocker in the living room... your husband could be on the couch, and you could both watch TV and have a drink (always good to have while nursing) on a side table.......
It is so much easier to nurse lying down in bed--no hunched over back and no sore elbow on the armrest. Just skip the rocker and both you and your husband can lie down in the bed with teh baby in the middle. Much more comfortable and easier for baby to sleep too.
Put design aside and be thankful! I always wanted my husband to keep me company during those overnight feedings, at least on occassion.
We have an Eames rocker that I love in the nursery, but with two kids, I only used it for nursing a few times. It got more use when they were a little older, for bedtime stories. I agree with the others, you'll likely want to be in the living room a lot of the time for nursing.
I think a loveseat is a great idea. And it's great to have company. I must admit I did most of my nursing on the living room couch near people & the tv, but it is nice to have a quiet spot sometimes so I still think a rocker (or two) or a loveseat in the nursery is a good idea.
maybe put the rocker in the living room, and a chaise in the nursery. it can fit 2 or you can lay down and nurse...or nap

I always found it uncomfortable to nurse in the rocking chair and generally nursed on our couch or in bed. Only used the rocker for soothing baby to sleep late at night or for naps. I wouldn't go to any great lengths to add a second rocker because you will end up nursing all over the house and the novelty of your husband sitting with you will wear off pretty quickly. Kudos to him for wanting to be involved though! I know it can be frustrating for Dads (my husband wuld have loved to give bottles to our kids, but they were always fed straight from the tap) when they don't get to assist in feedings.
My husband felt the same, but we used 1 glider and 1 loveseat with ottoman. Why do you need 2 rocking chairs if only one of you is holding the baby?
I know I'm in the minority here, but I hate to nurse on rocking chairs, especially those with armrests!
I usually ended up sitting on the (twin) bed to nurse my son, but I like the idea of a loveseat.
i wish we had room for this - my bf has 2 in her nursery and I'm always sitting in there with her.
First of all...How precious is your husband?! Second, I wish I had room in our nursery to put a smallish loveseat as well as a rocker. So that is an idea, but also, I'm not sure how often you will actually be IN the nursery using it? I like the idea someone had of getting an eames rocker in the living room and perhaps another in the nursery. Good luck!

I love your husband's thoughtfulness but I can't help thinking you guys will want to divide and conquer a lot. Why does his chair have to glide? A smaller, decorative chair seems like the answer.
BTW, I cannot stand the Eames rocker, comfort-wise...I feel like I'm going to fall backwards all the time. I guess that's just me, as they sure are popular. Or do people just ignore that issue because it looks so cool?
