A good question from CB: I have been obsessed with the arco lamp by Achille Castiglioni for quite awhile. Unfortunately it is too tall to even fit in my apartment and way out of my price range. Instead of buying an outright knockoff I would rather buy a lamp that is simply inspired by the original. Which leads me to my question. Does anyone have any experience with the chrome arc floor lamp from Chiasso? Is it a good quality lamp? Is it worth the money? Does the top part swivel? My Christmas bonus is burning a hole in my pocket and I really want this lamp. But I don't live in Chicago so I can't go inspect it myself. Help me out AT'ers.

I have had this lamp for two years, and I love it. Design purists will probably drum me out of town, but I actually prefer the flat circular base to the big chunky base of the original. The top does indeed swivel, and the height is adjustable as well. It's very sturdy -- no destabilization or screw stripping, even after being taken apart and put back together several times. It does weigh a ton, though, so you may want to get a friend to help you set it up.
I have this lamp as well -- after four years, it's definitely dropped lower. The bolt holding hte top into the base has bent a bit, which has caused the drop. But, it's a pretty easy thing to fix and the manufacturer has already said it will send a replacement bolt.
I like the base better on this lamp, too.
I also have this version of the lamp and face the same space constraints. This fits well with my 8 foot cielings, but still has the same dramatic feeling. I like the adjustability of the height, and the lamp does swivel. It has a high end look. You won't be disappointed.
what about the even cheaper/crappier arc lamp at CB2? it's $200 and i want it!
Personally I like the Double Dip lamp by CB2. It's an arch styled lamp that doesnt quite so...resemble... the arco. Meaning it looks less like a knock-off, and more like it's own lamp. Its beautiful and gives a much more ambient light than the chrome hooded ones.

I have the Big Dipper Arc Lamp from CB2. It looks nice enough, but at $200, I don't expect it to last forever.
When I googled for it, I found this other AT thread on arc lamps
I ordered the lamp a couple days ago. I found a coupon code online and couldn't wait for AT to return from their holiday hiatus. Now I just have to figure out where to put it.
You can also have the Cast Floor Lamp from EQ3, I don't have it but i've seen it, and it's great. It's about 200$ too.
I've had my eye on the arc lamp from Dania ($275). It looks very similar to Chiasso's.
