Patrice is looking for some advice: I was wondering if you could post my plea for help to your readers & DIYʼers. I need a cheap lighting solution for my bedroom makeover. I really like the 3-D Chandelier from Urban Outfitters (above, left) but I would love to add a few more light bulbs to it as seen in the Ilde Max piece at Y Lighting (above, right)....

Basically I want to buy the 3-D chandelier (which is just mdf cutouts), but I need some DIY help on how to re-create the Ilde Max fixture, so that I can add the mdf pieces. I donʼt even know if this will look nice, but the idea is stuck in my head now, so I just gotta do it!
Any tips, ideas, words advice or suggestions for Patrice's project are welcome!

xmas lights? I think you can get a screw in plug for the socket and short socked cords to go into that. Then you'd just drape them over the arms. The question is, of course, how strong is the base and whether or not you can have more bulbs close to it (plastic or other flammable material such as cardboard or, as above, mdf).
i have that urban outfitter chandelier in yellow and i love it as is! it won't be easy to add more bulbs. plus it's quite delicate... i broke the first one! for a foyer or dining table, it'll provide enuff light as is, i think.

I love urban outfitters' 3-D chandelier, but I have been reluctant to buy one because of how they work (they need a swag light kit) does anyone know how I can DIY it so that it is actually wired into a ceiling electrical box?

well the LA site had a diy on the ilde max fixture not too long ago.
i really can't envision a mashup myself but thankfully you aren't limited by my imagination! good luck - post your results!
Any cord lighting can be wired into a J-Box - just ask an electrician to snip the plug off and rewire.
As to the DIY aspect - you might be able to use those socket extensions to 'grow' 2-3 more lightbulps out of the exising socket in the UO one.
could you buy the one for UO and use it as an template to make a larger one that would house more bulbs? then, maybe you could even return the UO one...
or you could try using small round bulbs that still have the larger base.

You don't have to use a swag light kit. I have the 3-D chandelier and I used a basic hard wired mini pendant from a big box store similar to this:

I got rid of the included shade and used just the wiring.

Where did you get those?...i guess those are the socket extenders. I did a search for socket extenders, but nothing came up that look like what you have.
