Q: Hi! I bought this lamp at an estate sale a while back. I want to incorporate it into the nursery I am preparing for my baby boy but I am at a complete loss at what to do for a lamp shade. I would love some suggestions! Thanks!

I'd think it would be pretty easy (with a little fiddling) to make it a hanging pendant lamp. Something like this would be pretty:

or any of those decorative hanging pendants with beads and things. Could look nice in a boys room.
I'd design the room around it, paired with this Plumage Lamp Shade

Find an old torn lampshade at a thrift store and remove the fabric. Replace with ribbons and fun yarns that replicate the rooms colors. If you use a low wattage bulb, you can then use the lampshade to display a changing line-up of photos. Just slide the photos between the strands of yarn. See this simple example: http://www.diyideas.com/quickprojects/Accents/stringlampshade_1.html
Also great for a boy's room, use the top half of a globe. See #6 here: http://www.oobject.com/category/great-diy-lighting-ideas/
maybe skip a shade altogether?

That lamp looks really old. I'd rewire it before using it for anything, especially a child's room.
If it was in a place it wouldn't tip over, a glass shade would be stunning on this lamp! Try here: http://www.rejuvenation.com
i am with the first commenter. something like you would seen on friends the tv show.
Depending on the style you have in mind for the rest of the room, consider using something modern and clean (a drum shade perhaps) for an unexpected pairing. Can't wait to see the finished results!
I think it would be really fun to paint it a bright color and pair with a simple white japanese paper lantern.
