I wouldn't mind seeing it in a high gloss white. A high gloss any color, really, to take advantage of it's beautiful shape. Congrats to you on a great find!

Red! A nice, deep red would set off the brown and turquoise wonderfully.

Cant go wrong with... YELLOW! or Bright red. Either of those primary colors will boost up the room/corner from your dark neutral colored couch. Then add a vibrant yellow or red pillow with a fun print on the couch. This should bright up any time of ur day.

That table is something special. Way to go. I like the persimmon suggestion. But it's cute as it is, too.

Are there other colors in your living room accessories that you could play off? The light blue that it is kind of goes with the silver lamp.

Michael W: I have that same problem--yes, the tissue box is a bit distracting and so-unexciting point but i have one up on my side-table (actually one with cool print design on it). It also bothers me and I'm not sure what to do with it. I dont want to "hide" it when I need it out sometimes! What would you guys suggest to do with the tissue box?

I disagree with leaving the color the way it is because it is too muted and is camouflaging with the wall!

Yellow is my favorite color and I love love love the CB2 "Sol" console table in bright yellow. Yes, you have to accessorize the table appropriately and make that tablescape sing; a single big box retail lamp and box of kleenex is too prosaic for your darling table. I also love the idea of a persimmon color: not quite a red and not quite an orange but would add a richness to whatever room you had the table in.

Take your time, paint it right, use good brushes, don't rush it. Post pictures. If not here then post on Casasugar before and after. Good luck.

I love that table, but I think you're right that it's crying out for a stronger colour. I'm torn between a bright gloss white and some kind of 1950s shade like oversaturated peppermint blue or pistachio green (cos I think the table has a nice suggestion of 1950s flying saucer-ness about it).

Actually now that I see what I've written I've changed my mind - defo go for a 1950's colour!

I think a bright coral would look great with the couch and lamp colors.

And I have tissues in every room of my house, I have terrible allergies! How judgemental the lucky people who don't need them are!

Muddygrrl: I was just thinking of hiding the tissues while you took the photo...I'm not against having practical things around the house, I just tend to want to hide them for photos or visitors. As for the color, if you are going to paint it, I like the persimmon suggestion, or a lobster red-orange...something that pops!

I disagree with the red & orange color suggestions. They would clash hard against your dark brown sofa. If you were to replace the sofa then I might think otherwise.

However, going off of the setup you have right now, I would pull from the existing color and the teal in the lamp shade and do something in between. Or even Just refresh the color it is now and go more into a color like Robins Egg Blue or Seafoam Green. I would only do gloss white if your walls were painted a different color. It won't have enough punch to fly in this setup.

Basically, your colors are cool (brown, blue), so stay cool with this table and it should look pretty good.

I just wanted to add, I don't think the eyesore is your table in this photo. It think it's the highlight. That said, maybe change your table lamp & pillows to compliment. You might be rethinking the painting...

I say go for a burst of color against your pale walls and dark sofa: MAGENTA!

I want to say Robin's Egg Blue (a la Tiffany's) but it won't match the blue of your pillows and lampshade I don't think. I'm still going to give it my vote, and humbly acknowledge the cascading need it will create for new accessories. White would look great, but IMO seems too safe for such a fun piece that could become the highlight of the room. I do agree with high gloss!

I think there's not enough context to tell what color would look best. But a couple of other good strong colors are mustard, chartreuse, deep marigold yellow. Tidy up around it and pull it further from the wall so it will stand out.

Hi, Marisa here! Thanks for the suggestions! A few things:

-The table isn't style at all. I put the lamp there to get it out of the outbox during the cure. Once I've settled on a color, I'll add appropriate accessories.

-I'd like a color that will complement the living room (mostly brown and blue) and the dining room (the DR walls are similar to the lampshade with white trim). Orange & Persimmon are front runners!

-Yes, the box of tissues is unsightly but my allergies were in high gear at the time. :-)

The table is lovely - I agree with those who've suggested bright yellow, which I think would be great with the lampshade.

For those who are distressed by tissue boxes (I am not one of you, but I can understand), there was a nice little sewing solution here: http://makeitandloveit.blogspot.com/2009/04/tissue-box-cover.html - of course, it still looks like a tissue box, but prettied up with the pattern of your choice.

I looked at the shot and immediately thought 'yellow'. A goldenrod orange-y yellow? Whatever hue you choose, I'd go with a high value color.

I think you should strip it and stain it.

This table wasn't originally painted.

I believe it was manufactured by Mertzer (sic?) in the 1940's or 50's - probably in a Honey Maple finish.

That said, I would paint it white and have a round glass top cut to fit the top - I'd then backpaint the glass in an icy blue color before placing it on top.

i think chartreuse for your table would look so fun because it is bright but in the right shade, won't be a striking contrast

one option for the finish is a trick i've learned. you can find a car paint & body shop and they can paint furniture! it turns out super glossy and with all those little sparkles you see in paint.

I agree with those that are saying to paint it a high gloss white. That way you can change the colour scheme in your living room with easier to change elements like pillows, flowers and other accessories. I once painted a side table a bold green and grew tired of it pretty quickly and never got around to repainting. Also, you could change out the existing knob for something with a bit of colour from Anthropologie.

I think a glossy canary yellow would look beautiful! I have a pair of those lamps that I'm using on my nightstands, which haven't been built yet but will be a glossy canary yellow.

@MiniEnglishRose: the lamps went on sale months ago at my local Pier 1 store. You should check to see if your local store has any, but they're still available at full price online.

PS - The lamps look much prettier when they're NOT turned on; the shade turns a beige-y/tan color when the light's on.

I think bright/bold orange or white.
I'd also consider a two-tone where the drawer and the slightly inset part of the sides are a different color, but that may not work with the rest of your decor.

I vote for glossy white since it's the most versatile. You could change around your couch and accessories and it'd still probably work. If you want color, I liked the magenta suggestion a lot. If you don't want a blue or green or gray, then a red or pink with strong blue undertones would look great with the blues and brown.

I vote either glossy yellow or glossy white.

It's a very nice table, but if you want to paint it a bright color, I'd go with lime green. I've seen lime green work with blue/turquoise, and also with brown.

I second selenakyle, I think it is very charming the way it is.

I was feeling the tiffany blue-esque vibe when i saw this too, but like what has been said...it'd clash with your pillows. you could always paint it a similiar color blue as is what is on your pillows but with a gloss to it...I think it'd pop and be modern looking..but at the same time right now it has a sort of old world antiquey feel to it that i really like with the muted blue.
