Good Questions: Rug and Tables for Space-Challenged Living Room?

Hi AT:SF, I'm in the process of completly re-doing my living room in my townhouse and need advice! So far I've purchased the R&B 76" Andre sofa in Teton Pewter, the R&B 42 inch Linear Media Stand in white oak, and two Hans Wegner CH25 chairs. At this point I can still return things if they don't work...

...I need a colorful 8 x 10 rug (less than $2k) that would add some "pop" to the room and highlight the color of the Wegner chairs as my wood floors are light. The chairs will be located in place of the gold chairs with a table in between. The sofa (lamp will go on wall side of it) will face the windows and the media
stand will be on the right wall. I need to find a small scale coffee table and accent table for between the Wegner chairs. I'd like to go more modern than mid-century with the tables.

These rugs are amazing and reasonably priced.

Velocity Art and Design has some really great rugs, but I think this one in particular works with your color scheme, and would pop without overpowering the room. The 8x10 is 1500 and they also have a round one that looks really neat:

So in many threads latey, people have been pointing out that a room done in all one style tends to feel a little sterile. all your furnishings are crisp and modern, so I think you should go for a more traditional or transitional rug. You love R&B (so do I!) so consider one of theirs. You may already know that the design consultants at R&B will confirm whether your rug choice will work with your upholstery -- if you didn't know, give them a call! Also, they happen to be having a rug sale right now. Kilm rugs are extremely affordable compared to tufted rugs, so definitely consider those. (flat woven instead of a plush pile).

Another option is to go to a local rug dealer and get something from Pakistan or Asia, or maybe a tribal rug from North Afria (I happen to have one listed in the ATLA classifieds). If you're savvy, you can negotiate a price that's 30 to 50% off the "tag price". For example, I looked at a rug listed at $2500 and fell in love. I could afford $1800, so I brought in cash (seriously, green bills), pulled it out and offered $1600 cold hard cash. We negotiated to $1800 including tax.

Overstock.com has good pricing on rugs. Shop the higher priced rugs for best quality/value.

not cheap, but so beautiful and well made. Not sure about what to put in between the 2 CH25 chairs...there is a carl hansen ottoman made of the same material that can double as a table. It might be too matchy matchy, but at least it won't clash! good luck.

I think that you can still have a modern, crisp look without looking sterile. You seem to want furniture that compliments one another, not stuff that competes for attention. If you want a really colorful KAPOW rug, maybe you should find a great painting for the walls as an inspiration, and pull a favorite color from it for the floor. I think that you can make the room special by adding unique accent pieces throughout, you have a neutral wall color so you can really go crazy with the things you put on it... a stack of colorful art books sitting on an interesting shelf, amazing artwork, photos hung in a way that catches the eye. Its the little things that really make a room your own.

I second the Peace Industry suggestion! They are super cool. I had one made for my dad's living room - they will do custom color combos and sizes, so you can get exactly what you need.

I'm still stuck on a rug though.

I did call Room & Board for some rug advice but all the rugs they recommended are so neutral they do nothing to help me add color to the room. I'm not looking for a traditional rug or a felt rug (Peace Industries) for this particular space. So, I'm still looking for rug ideas. Any specifc rug recommendations for the truly decoratively challenged are appreciated.

I'm also rethinking my sofa selection. Does anyone know what sofa this is shown in this picture?
