Why not incorporate the orange and lavender I see in the art on the wall? Maybe throw in a bit of red as well. Keep it bright and poppy!

Definitely red- like a cranberry shade. Orange and Lavender are also good ideas, but I like the warmth and boldness of red against the rich brown sofas and cool-colored walls.

Get a rug first and use that as your color inspiration.

If you want something warm, go for orange like others have said. Personally, I think white or vanilla would look great.

Since you have no patterns at all in the room - you could choose whatever color or pattern you'd like, including bright red.

A teal/white combination would tie in the color of your walls and window trim nicely while providing some contrast to the darkness of your sofas. Here are some possibilities I found via Etsy:

You have a pretty masculine thing happening between the scale of the couches and their leather upholstery. The square frames work. The filigree frame is cool but seems very feminine to me. I would eliminate it in this room. The things on the wall could be hung in a much better composition. The wall color is unusual which is not necessarily a minus. It is problematic up against the white wall, however. The room, for me, is screaming fro something chrome to add some edge and to bounce some light around.

I would do a light rug and some ethnic pillows, probably african. The femme frame would have to go for that to work.

In the absence of a rug, or any indication where you want to take the vibe of the room, a velvet that matches the wall color.

Or ivory leather.

Alos love the look of pillows that match the color of the piece, but area different fabric/texture... so, in this case, brown velvet.

Or a combo of all of the above.

if your looking for something a little bolder i think these pillows would be cute.. they have the blue gray, and brown, plus other colors if you wanna brighten up the room a bit.

It all depends how do you envision your place. Do you want to carry on the subtle mute tones which are already present in your room or you want to add drama by adding contrast?

If I were you and wanted to keep muted tones, i wold use some bold print in blues/grays.
But if I was feeling a little more fun I couldbring out the yellow of floors and use this print:

Orange, especially b/c it will pull down the color from the picture on the wall! Or if you could find a patterned or striped fabric with orange in it too, that would look great!

I can't focus on pillow color beacuse your art is distracting me. It is too high, as a general rule art needs to be hung about 8-12" above the sofa back (the bottom of the art of course). When doing groupings I have a good suggestion. Place all the art on the floor untill you find the proper arangment- in general groupings should be laid out almost like a clock, giving your eye movement around the different pieces. After you are happy with your arangment flip the pictures, get a large piece of trace paper and mark where nails should be places, hang the paper on the wall and your arangement should work out great. What color is the hair on the girl in the painting to the left? If it is a light green like it looks on my screen, it might be nice to go with light green and organge, to bring out the color of your paintings. Anything bright and bold would be good though.

Orange would be nice, but you've also mentioned having "tons" of pillows. I think using a few colors & changing them out or mixing them up would be fun.

i say yellow.

but the pictures above the sofa would probably look best somewhere else. the placement doesn't work as it is. just needs a slight tweak.

thanks for all the ideas! I think I'm going to look for some red fabric with a pattern, since we don't have anything in the apartment with some. I'm not planning on covering the sofas with so many pillows to the point that they become annoying, but a few to make lounging around more comfortable.

about the art being too high- our ceilings are pretty low as out loft has a second floor, so pretty much wherever the art is, it looks too high. We tried hanging picture at the same heights as the lowest one (with the thick black frame) but it just looked silly to me because it's so close to the sofa back. I also cannot stand art that's hung all in a line, or so that that outside of the frame all line up etc. I wanted something random and realize it's not what everyone likes it. My boyfriend and I love it tho.

threadbare- I wasn't asking if you thought my loft looked nice or anything to improve on it, just what colour fabric would work with what I currently have. My boyfriend and I love the way our place looks, and that's all the matters to us.

Actually I think I changed my mind! I looked at the teal and white pillows JH4285 posted and remembered how much I love teal!

I think red could work - as the other poster said, just not stop sign red. Either a more orangey red or a purple toned red. I could see a nice faded red linen as a contrast...
