I was looking for several months too - I eventually gave up and bought a regular loveseat for the den and will rely on the AeroBed and/or local hotels for guests.

I also use an aerobed for guests and I think as long as you put an extra layer of some sort of top (like a foam topper) even couples can sleep on it comfortably without jostling each other all night long. We've actually had guests rave about how comfortable it was.

I saw that Urban sofa at the store...I can tell you it looks A LOT smaller in person and while not the worst sofa ever it's not exactly great.

Chiasso has several modern convertible sofas under $2,000...a few of them are even on sale. I have no idea what the quality is like, but I have a feeling it would be a little bit better than Urban's.

Nix on getting a sofa bed. You sacrifice on comfort both in the sofa and the bed. The above posters are right---buy an Aerobed, and you can use it at home, or take it with you to other homes. I have a king-size Aerobed and it works out very nicely.

Sofa beds never live up to their promise, and weigh a ton.

I have this sofa and regret it. It's lumpy and uncomfortable, the buttons are already falling off. I've only had the sofa a few months. I wish I would have waited and just spent a few hundred dollars more for something of quality. This purchase really turned me off from buying furniture online. I was also surprised when I had to assemble it myself. It took 4 hours and the legs were scratched and bent. I had to call the company to send me new legs. Do not waste your money on this product.

I bought a sofa bed (loveseat size -- I had a small NYC apartment) through a catalog a few years back, and it worked out terrifically. It folded out into a single bed. The loveseat part worked out well, and so did the bed, since it had a reasonable facsimile of a mattress. It was shipped assembled and lasted for years.

I also bought an Aerobed (I frequently had a large number of guests at a time), which didn't last at all. Well, I did catch my friends' children jumping on it, which pretty much was the end of it.

If you buy sleeper sofas online or through a catalog, buy from a reputable retailer because a shoddy sofa bed is not worth the money you pay for it. A reputable retailer will still be able to provide good prices (if you watch for sales), and it's more likely you'll be happy with the quality.

Umm read all the other sofabed posts on this site. People keep asking the same questions and the answers are pretty much the same. If you are in NY check out Downtown Furniture on Grand Street. Most of those brands you can then check for on the internet for San Fran and other places

Hi, and thanks for some of the suggestions. I have been looking for a guest bed / couch n:0 2 for some time now, been through all the AT posts on the subject and found a few options.

-Room&Board has one, but I hate microfiber
-Innovation has one model, but the tufting isn't deep enough to my taste...(I'm too picky, I know)
-Case Study is nice, but I'm worried that it's too small

I personally hate to sleep on an air mattress, plus our place is very drafty, and wouldn't make anyone sleep on floor-level.

Is it comfortable? It looks like it might be hard. I'm looking for a sleeper too, but it needs to be comfortable enough to watch a movie on.

Check out the Orion Wall Hugger by Strata. It's modern yet warm looking, inexpensive ($700 for the frame), space saving for a small studio, yet it opens to a double bed, and is a beautiful solid wood that comes in black or a walnut finish.

You can put any cover you want on it to create any desired look. Of course the cover is removable for cleaning, which it is not on the Nomade-Express by Lignet Roset or the Flex sofa bed by CB2. It has no slit running down the middle like the Slider Sofa Bed does at DWR. It is also far less expensive than the Nomade and the Slider, but more (with a mattress) than the Flex. I also find that a top of the line futon is superior to anything else, including the American Leather pieces which are supposedly touted for being wonderful for everyday use. Simply put, they are not. My American Leather Dawson was returned to Room and Board, because I awoke completely sore every day. Not to mention, you have to unzip all those pillows, take the cushions off, and open the thing up which is cumbersome. It also took up the entire studio. The Orion does none of the above, looks great, was inexpensive, and fantastic to sleep on with the right mattress. You can also change the look at your whim simply by changing the mattress cover. All in all, I would not even consider anything else.

Because it is a wall hugger by Strata, it will not mark your walls or scuff your floors when opening it. In essence it remains stationary. It also has a wrap around back (very rare), making it look great as a day bed when open and pillows are tossed on the back.
