Q: I'm planning on reupholstering the cushions of a wood-framed mid-century chair (a sentimental family piece) in green leather this color. Do you have a source -- brick and mortar or online -- for a hide this beautiful shade? If economical, the better, but all suggestions appreciated.

Editor: Our first thought was Edelman Leather in the Merchandise Mart. They have a big selection of leathers for upholstery in a wide range of colors. But, that's just one option - please share any sources or ideas with Marissa in the comments below - thanks!

Siegel of California (http://siegelofca.com/) sells the same moss and apple green leather used in Coach handbags. They probably have something that fits the bill -- they were having Friday sales on this leather recently. Call them, since the specials are not always listed. I've bought from them before. Prices are good and shipping over $75 is free.
There are tons of options at the Merchandise Mart, as previously mentioned, but if you are not a designer or trade affiliated, you may not be able to purchase though them. That being said, try Fishman's Fabrics - they have a variety of leathers (types & colors) at reasonable prices too (http://www.fishmansfabrics.com/).
Spinneybeck they have every color and range imaginable.
Edelman Leather is anything but affordable to us mere mortals...
...and one must bear in mind that leather isn't sold by the yard or the square foot, but by the hide or perhaps the half-hide.
There are several online resources - Just Google...
...there are several online discounters such as Schindlersfabrics who carry leathers - their selections depend on what's available at a given time.

I second Spinneybeck (http://www.spinneybeck.com). Or Pacific Hide & Leather (http://www.pacifichide.com/). Or if you want to go faux, Izit Leather looks pretty good/real. Edelman is fabulous, but pretty pricey.
Garrett Leather is to the trade only, but explains here how to determine the square footage you need to order.

A great online resource is Rich Leather International www.4hides.com. Tannery direct, great prices, great selection and great customer service. Free samples are offered to enable you to choose exactly the type and color of leather you are looking for.
