Good Questions: Any recommendations for a daybed?

2007-07-05-parsons daybed.jpg Kimber sent us an email: "Our son was born 4 months ago and we have yet to outfit his nursery because "his room" is also the guest room and, so far, we've had an unending series of guests. But now that the onslaught of visitors has passed, it's time to decorate the nursery!

First order of business: replace the old full-size bed with a clean-lined daybed, sofabed, or perhaps even a futon. In the future, we do want to be able to offer guests a full-size bed to sleep on, but we don't want to have such a big bed taking up all the space in our son's rather small room. Any good suggestions under $800?

We like the Lubi daybed from CB2 and it's in our price-range; trouble is, for the bed to accomdate two sleepers, you've got to unfold the mattress onto the floor, which isn't very grandparent friendly."

• The Flip-Flop Convertible Sofa from CB2.

• They're having a sale on this Futon Lounger over at West Elm. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but at least it appears comfortable.

• It's in a lower price range, but you may also want to consider the Lillberg over at Ikea.

We put this sofa bed in our son's play room. It has a washable, white slipcover. Although it's a double bed, it has a very small foot print because of the way is folds. 80% of the year, Jack enjoys the fact that he has his own sofa in his play room! It was the perfect solution for us!

This may not be the most comfortable option, but it's affordable, good looking and would probably be fine for a few nights. You could also bolster it with an extra padded mattress pad.

The Hemnes daybed from Ikea ROCKS! It's all white and is a twin bed, but the drawers underneath pull all the way out and make it into a full size bed!

You can provide your own fabric for upholstery, too.

Does anyone know if you could put a pop-up trundle under the Parsons Daybed? Is it high enough to accommodate that? We have a similar problem, and are looking for a non-hideous modern daybed that can accommodate a pop-up trundle so my (slightly oversized) folks can comfortably stay in our guest room/den/home-office on a king-sized bed (the two twin trundles pulled together).....
