I was wondering whether anyone has had the problems I've been having with my Pablo Gloss floor lamp and with the company that makes it. I bought this lamp on-line from Modern Essentials, on sale, at a price that I thought was a steal; now I'm not so sure. As soon as I plugged it in, the dimmer slide got very hot and began to smell like burning plastic or wire. When I called Pablo to ask them if this was normal, they said it wasn't, and sent me a replacement dimmer, which I was supposed to install myself.... [more below]

I did; now the lamp didn't smell bad, or seem to be in danger of bursting into flames, but it gave off much less light than before (and not the lovely white light that halogen usually produces, but a sickly yellow incandescent light). When I called Pablo again, I spoke to the designer/owner, who told me they'd send me ANOTHER dimmer switch. That was about two weeks ago; nothing has arrived, and they can't provide me or Modern Essentials with even a UPS tracking number.
Is this lamp a lemon? It's beautiful, but it's starting to seem like a waste of time and money, not to mention a fire hazard.
It certainly sounds like a converter problem in your dimmer, which normally takes the power coming out of the wall and adjusts it to power your bulbs, which are special in this case. Sounds like for all its beauty as a design, Pablo is sourcing cheap dimmers. If this is a big problem, they may be reeling right now. Don't stop bugging them and let's hope that we hear from others here.
