Q: I'm looking for help finding an all-metal sideboard. The space I want to put it in is under a window, so I'd like to find something about 30-36" tall. I really like the IKEA PS cabinet, but I'm afraid that (at only about 25") it will be just a little too short. I also like the Quovis Credenza, but it's way out of my price range (I'd like to stay close to $500). Does anyone have any ideas?

White Enamel Four-P...
Check out the Ikea PS - only $99 and it comes in 3 colors.
Ha ha -- you obviously only read the title...
maybe you could figure out a way to add a shelf/riser to the top of the PS cabinet. In the case of my bathroom vanity with said cabinet, I added a butcherblock (also IKEA) countertop above it to raise the overall height.

Mine is supported by wall brackets, but it would be easy enough to make something with legs that you could attach directly to the top of the cabinet. Added bonus that you then get two surfaces instead of one.
I really like the Halogen sideboard from cb2: http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=118&f=4265
Also, check restaurant supply companies. They have this sort of thing far cheaper than a furniture retailer. It might be more utilitarian looking, but I like that.
Finally, I'd check craigslist regularly. That old metal tanker-style office furniture was really hot a few years ago, and I see credenzas posted sometimes.
You probably considered the TORSBY Sideboard. I'm getting one for my place for the same reasons that you stated, though it's not metal. Also, how about putting the Ikea PS on some cool blocks or "hacked" legs? Good luck!
I second Lobo - I am sure you could hack some kind of alternate leg on the IKEA ps.
And don't be afraid to think outside the box - lots of IKEA furniture comes with the legs sold separately. Look at coffee table legs, wardrobe bases, even club chair legs there.

Buy the IKEA PS cabinet and either swap out the legs or add large, 5" casters to it. It'd look fabulous with casters...
: )
Vintage Steelcase on Craigslist. Way Cooler, and in your price range (250-500)!
great suggestion rainierzed, you can probably get a vintage tanker desk or sideboard for less than $100. I got my tanker desk for $30.

something like this but find it on Craigslist or Ebay or a school surplus sale for cheap
You can check your area for a used office supply dealer. You can probably get a really neat Steel Case credenza that fits your budget. I'm also with the people who are suggesting hacking the Ikea PS by giving it longer legs. Good luck!
If you live in Chicago, check out Scout in Andersonville. They have all sorts of stainless furniture that isn't the flimsy garbage you'll likely end up with if you buy new.
www.scoutchicago.com. Though their website is limited, you might give them a call to let them know what you're looking for, and maybe they can help. They have really cool stuff.
i have been looking for a steelcase credenza like this for several years. it seems this was a regional staple back in the sixties to business offices in the northeast, or northern midwest or west coast. i live in texas and i have still not found one. i did stumble upon this one yesterday (which actually went up for sale yesterday) on chicago craigslist just by googling what you were looking for. it probably won't be around long for this price and is just over what you wanted to spend, but still looks like a beautiful piece: good luck and hope you get before someone else does:
