Q: I am absolutely in love with the Harvest Meadow rug from Horchow. However, I can't afford to pay $1300 for a rug! Is there something similar out there for less?
I have a dark brown leather couch, pale blue walls, and the Taka trunk from Crate and Barrel as a coffee table. The blues and browns of the rug would go great with what I have going on, and I like the added punch of color that the orange would give the room. I need something around 5' x 8'.
Any suggestions?

For your living room, what you really need is something closer to an 8x10 rather than a 5x8...

I'm a big fan of overstock.com rugs like those posted above. I have several that never fail to get compliments from guests, and they look more costly than what i paid.
This first link is almost exactly like the rug you posted...
and half the price.

As for the size, I think it depends on the size of your room and how much floor you want to cover,
and the look you are going for.
I would buy a cheapo sisal from Cost Plus or IKEA that is the correct size for the room, probably 8X10 as bepsf suggested. Then save and save for the perfect rug in the perfect size. If the rug is puny, you'll always wish that you had bought bigger (trust me on this).
A few from Home Decorators Collection.

Get onto Capel's website. They have an amazing selection and retailers in most cities.
The Pottery Barn online sale section has a few rugs that are similar to the one you want and cost much less. Check out the Adeline, Malika and Maren rugs.

5x8 could very well be appropriate for a living room rug...it depends on the size of the room! 5x8 is the size I have in my cozy living room, and I certainly couldn't go any bigger.

They also have the exact rug I posted earlier, with sales
tax and shipping included in the price....plus a wide variety of floral rugs....(and others as well).

Beautiful rug. To decide on size, you want your rug to go under the sofa legs and under any chairs that are on the sides or opposite the sofa. That's at least what the experts recommend. That way the room feels more unified.
Zoee, the rug you posted is the exact same rug as in my post! However, for the size I want, it's still $1300. Thanks for all the suggestions, AT readers. -- Holly
