Hello AT,
My girlfriend and I just got engaged.
We're looking for a good, aesthetically interesting place to hold a wedding for 200 people in the fall of 2007.
We've looked at a lot of spaces in the two weeks we're been engaged -- and we're finding more and more every day.
I thought AT would be a great resource.
Would you be nice enough to take a couple of minutes to think of some places that aren't on our list below -- and e-mail back to me with some suggestions?
Thanks, R.

Dear R,
That is quite a good list you've got going, and while we are big fans of the country wedding, we'll say that we know these personally and really like them:
Angel Orensanz - Beautiful, grand
Puck Building (top floor) - Outstanding view
Mary Cleaver - Awesome (and can be organic)
Tom Lussier of Cafiero Lussier is really good too. He did a wedding for a friend of ours at Angel Orensanz that was drop dead gorgeous and delicious. Check him at:

They know of some excellent locales.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden. That's where my wife and I were married, it was amazing. They have their own caterer who was fantastic.
My husband and I just got married in May. We had our wedding and the cocktail reception at a marvelous place called Harry's Loft (www.harrysloft.com) right on 19th street - between Park & Broadway. The two women who run the loft - Henrietta and Venetia - are amazingly talented. Henrietta did all of our flowers and Venetia did the catering. It was the perfect space for a fun urban wedding.
Good luck!
All gorgeous places. Just FYI, you're gonna drop 50k min on any of those places for 200 people. And that would be really bare bones. It could easily hit 100k. Which is cool if that's what you want, but if I've heard it once I've heard it a thousand times: "I really wish we had a smaller wedding and used put that money towards our first home"
I second the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. My best friend got married there and it was the best wedding I've ever been to!
Congratulations! I was married at the New York Botanical Garden (Bronx, baby). Not technically Manhattan, but they were incredible. There is simply not a more beatiful place to get married (in my humble opinion). We had the ceremony there and a major plus is that they have parking, it is across teh street from the Metro north station and it is easy to get there from NYC, NJ and Westchester. The caterer was Abigail Kirsch and was beyond fabulous. I worked in Event planning (non-profit fundraising mostly) for many years (first an Interior Designer then Event planner, dude I have some stories) and have worked with most of the major caterers in the city. Hands down Abigial Kirsch, Glorious Food and Washington Street for the big events. I second Mary Cleaver for the small, and add Feasts And Fetes.
Oh, and Elizabeth Ryan is my number one choice for flowers, followed by Ron Wendt and then Anne Bruno. (p.s., if any space tells you that you MUST use their vendors, don't believe it, there is always, ALWAYS, more for you to negotiate using your own vendors, never take no for answer if it's something that you really want.)
I meant to say "room" to negotiate, not more, that was a weird typo.
Wherever it is, make sure you use Michael O'Neill, from Northport, NY to do your photos.
He is featured on www.nikonpro.com as one of the best in the world. The pics he posted are amazing.
He has a bunch more stuff at monphoto.com
My friends have used him and the difference is well worth it.
what does this have to do with anything related to apartment therapy, maxwell?
Brooklyn Botanic Garden is phenomenal. The food was great, beautiful setting and amazing service.
Also, Thomas Preti is AWESOME.
Don't forget the clubs! University club(link) and Metropolitan Club are architecturally magnificent and can be less $$ than Abigail Kirsch and friends...and are willing to let you have an event there if you're not a member (the caterers assist you in finding a member who will 'vouch' for you)
A friend of mine got married in Marmara Manhattan two years ago. It is an extended stay hotel on the Upper East. Has a lovely roof. Nice view, modern furniture and a balcony. (smokers go outside even if it snows and they would pray for you!)
At the time the cost was less expensive than closing up a medium sized restaurant in Prospect Park on a weekday.. I don't remember the details.
Here's a direct link to the rooftop lounge.
http://www.marmara-manhattan.com/lounge.html
Not crazy about Angel Orensanz - acoustics were pretty awful. Brooklyn Botanic is a mill - they ahve 2 weddings per day there (in the same space). Abigail Kirsch has a bunch of townhouses they use plus a space at Chelsea Piers. You will easily spend 50K - I know we did, and we only had 135 people. Sick, sick, sick.
My wife and I had ours at the Alger House. Its a really pretty carriage house in the west village. Awesome food, awesome space and a great setting for a wedding.
Not sure if it would be big enough for 200 though...
Just went to one at the crystal ball room in the brooklyn botainical gardens that was pretty nice too.
is this wedding therapy?
Check out Carrie McLaren's rundown (the settled on Gary's Loft):
http://www.anotherfuckingwedding.com/2005/10/garys_loft.html
or take a look at the Queens County Farm Museum(http://www.queensfarm.org/), The Queens Museum (http://www.queensmuseum.org/) and Pochron Studios (http://pochronstudios.com/) and The Foundry (http://www.thefoundry.info/directions.html).
I can think of plenty of more-appropriate blogs/sites where this question could have been posed.
Please do not turn AT into Wedding Therapy!!!
how many can the crystal place at brooklyn botanical garden hold? doesn't seem like you can have a dance floor AND 200 people at once....
What about the Seamen's Church Institute near the South Street Seaport - http://www.seamenschurch.org/rentals241.htm I've been in the space (not sure how many it can hold in total, looks big when empty) and the views are stunning year round.
Try Metrazur in Grand Central, you can't get much more NY than Grand Central. My husband and I got married there, and it ended up costing less than $100/pp for amazing food and an open bar (p.s. tip the bartender before the wedding for better service)
People who know and are interested in design notice it more than people who aren't interested do. Many people remember if there was a generous bartenter or a large breasted waitress rather than what the walls or lighting looked like. That is why this is a good crowd to ask about places if you are also interested in design.
I'm in the same boat myself so appreciate the good taste of the AT crowd... has anyone been to a party or wedding at Village? www.villagerestaurant.com Seems quite reasonable. We're in our 40s and paying for this ourselves--no way are we spending $50,000 for a party!
I second the recommendation for The Foundry. My wife and I were married there. It is an amazing space, and very "aesthetically interesting" - enough so that after our wedding we were watching "Sex and the City" and it was used as the location of a new, very hip restaurant where the girls went out.
not sure if this qualifies as good design--it can be interpreted so many ways--but my boy and i got married at bayard's in the india house building in the financial district. if you're into the look of "olde new york" it's great. but it's not hip and urban by any means!
Hi me too, just got engaged, try studio 450 on the very west side clean architecural studio space, good luck diane
2 suggestions: Wave Hill in the Bronx (Riverdale) -- amazing views across the Hudson.
Faculty House at Columbia University -- great views over Harlem and downtown, and amazingly cheap by NYC standards. Parking can be arranged, and you could have the wedding itself in St. Paul' chapel -- a beautiful and intimate chapel.
For catering, use the Movable Feast in Brooklyn. They cater Angel and many other places on your list. www.mfcatering.com
For 200 people you might also try the Brooklyn Museum, the Tobacco Warehouse, or Landmark on the Park.
Think before you spend though. A wedding is over in a day, but a downpayment on a house lasts forever!
The wedding venue at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is the Palm House:
http://www.palmhouse.com/index2.html
And, as others have mentioned, it's very nice.
Try http://www.indiebride.com/ for more ideas.
kind of funny, I tried to register weddingtherapy.com a couple of months ago but it was taken (though not used and I never got an email back)
Hey Courtney or anyone else who knows Harry's Loft. What are we looking at for price range on this space. It looks like a wonderful place to have a wedding.
Harry's Loft usually charges about $5000 for the space rental. We used all of their services (flowers, sound, catering)so we got a big break on the space rental. It really is a wonderful Loft - definitely not a wedding factory!
You should check this place out:
http://www.thefoundry.info/
I've been there a few times for private parties and it's an amazing space. I know they do a ton of weddings too.
We looked at the Angel Orensanz Theater (because we love it so) and were shocked to find that the cost of rental alone (not counting catering, rental of furniture and supplies, and decor) would be about $18k. Yow.
Instead, we got married at the Picnic House in Prospect Park. Really simple beauty. It was in November, so the leaves in the park were turning, and it was one of those freaky global-warming 70 degrees-in-November days.
Catering by the Raging Skillet, who I would highly recommend.
Too funny.
The ppl complaining about this thread look like they have never posted before yet they choose to complain for their first post.
For the record we went for the DP on our first apt over a big wedding but I don't think that is right for everyone.
I read recently a piece about how spending mucho dosh on a great vacation contributed to longer lasting happiness than apending the same on a car. All to do with memories of fleeting experiences invariably ending up much rosier than the cold harsh reality of car ownership once the bills started coming in or things started breaking. So a big wedding can produce long lasting feelings of happiness.
I wonder if that still holds true if the marriage does not last.
All great suggestions, I've been to weddings at all those places and they're all great. Also the Lighthouse @Chelsea Piers is right on the water, it's very pretty at night. Abigail Kirsch does the food. (She also does the food at The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens).
My friend just got married at Blue Hill at Stone Barns outside the city.
And yummy food too!
http://www.bluehillstonebarns.com/bhsb.html
just want to say thanks to all the posters! It's always great when looking at wedding plans to hear from guests at specific places!
The New Leaf Cafe, up by the Cloisters, has a fantastic space and very inexpensive food (relatively) through the restaurant.
Fort Tryon Park has a fantastic garden for photographs and the area is like a dream.
I looked into having my wedding there, and prices started as low as $2,000 for a very small event.
In the end, I got married in Venice, Italy, at one of the world's top-rated restaurants on the island of Torcello. $4,400 for a beautiful wedding with 25 guests.
Venue - the Foundry, Catering - Feast & Fetes (Daniel Boulud's catering company - http://danielnyc.com/cuvee/feast.html).
Actually, there are almost no houses of worship that are so small that 200 couldn't fit in, and some of the smaller and older ones might actually be kind of charming and pretty if you didn't necessarily want to spend a huge fortune.
The thing is, it kind of helps if you attend it for a while first, which means you kind of need to believe what they believe and like the clergy there, and also kind of get along with the lay people, too.
In addition to my above recommendations, I just thought of two other great places that I've been to for events. Wave Hill, though you have to use Great Performances, and they are not my favorite caterers as far as service or taste is concerned, but the location is breathtaking (even if it's a little threadbare, it's no Puck Building) and The New York Public Library. I went to an awesome event there several years ago, it is a really nice space.
I should caution anyone against Cipriani on 42nd street because of the Accustics, it is impossible to hear in there, I mean, seriously horrible, there is nothing worse than going to a wedding and not being able to talk to your friends and family because of the din. I remember a similair experience at Gotham Hall, though they have more sort of lounge areas that help with that. Ok, keep that in mind "R" you want your band and venue to work with you so that your guests don't go deaf.
Congrats on your engagement!
Here's another vote for Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I was a bridesmaid for a wedding there in July. They can do up to 300. It's gorgeous, the food is great, the woman who organizes things there is really nice and professional. It's great for rain or shine, because the indoor space is The Palm House--an enormous glass atrium (with air conditioning, don't worry). Look up www.thepalmhouse.com for more details.
Been to weddings at The Brooklyn Botanical Garden, The Picnic House in Prospect Park, The Ethical Culture Society in Park Slope, The Brooklyn Brewery, various private lofts, the now defunct Lion's Rock restaurant on the upper east side, The Players Club off Gramercy Park...honestly they were all fine.
Not all the marriages were.
I didn't see Wave Hill listed here. I live very close by and am there nearly every week, and the weddings that are being set up on Saturday afternoons (for that evening) always look like they will be absolutely spectacular. BTW, they use Great Performances as the caterers.
For those who wonder what this has to do with typical AT fare, I personally thought it was a great question and was interested from a design perspective as to what readers would say.
For me, setting up a space for a wedding (either by yourself or with help) is a veritable explosion and expression of your style as you start a new life and is a tremendous interior design possibility.
That and the fact that is was the end of August and I was feeling so nice and relaxed. :-)
I was a bridesmaid in a wedding at Bridgewaters, and it really was beautiful, a broad view of Brooklyn Bridge through huge windows, especially when fireworks started outside (not planned by the couple!). The reception food was good, the sit-down dinner so-so.
Angel Orensanz (is beautiful) but the people are a little difficult to deal with and are not always available when you need them. Included in their rental cost as noted above are chairs, tables and things you'd need to get from other vendors, but if you are looking for service, steer clear. Metropolitan Pavillion is also more about the space than having personal client attention.
Sonnier Castle Catering is EXCELLENT and can do any size party and have fantastic staff.
Any of the Cipriani's have great space, but it depends on your budget. Some of the more popular places will get to $100 per head not including tax/tip.
When I got married in 2003, we looked at Wave Hill, Harvard Club, Angel O (as well as Galapagos space in B'Burg, which was cool but too small), the Brooklyn Bridge (tough to do in winter), and tons of the loft spaces. We wanted something that hadn't been done to death, wasn't insanely spendy, and would be very new york. We wound up getting married at the Downtown Association, one of the oldest clubs in NYC down in the financial district. Think of it as a smaller Harvard Club (my dad was really set for that one), but you get all four floors all to yourself, including an amazing library with fireplace, billiards rooms, etc etc. Wonderful for hanging out with friends before the ceremony. It was half the price of the other places we looked at (we had 175 people and didn't come close to spending $50k), the food was fine if fairly unimaginative, and everyone had a wonderful time. I would also second Elizabeth Ryan for flowers - she does lovely things.
Nadia: I think you meant that they start at $100 (which is low in my opinion unless you're just doing cocktails, past hors d'oeuvrs & cake); R, though your venue selection thus far tells me that you are already aware of the costs involved, don't expect to pay less than $200 per person in manhattan for a full reception at a major event space.
The Otto Kahn Mansion on 5th Ave and 91st Street
It is actually a school now, The Convent of the Sacred Heart but they rent the mansion ball room for weddings and private events because it's is gorgeous and therefore a big money maker...check it out, i think it starts at $5,000 for the room, not including catering etc.
http://www.burdenkahnmansion.org/
What about the Toy Building on 23rd street and 5th across from the Flatiron building? Went to a wedding there 5 years ago. They took the huge lobby area (with ornate details) and created 3 separate spaces and the food was very good, esp. the apps.(I beleive it was catered in-house). Probably cost a pretty penny though. Has anyone ever used Bloom for flowers? Probably expensive too.
Congratulations!
I too doubt that AT is really the place for wedding planning. That said, I highly suggest you set your budget first, and remember that catering in NYC is at least 50% of that budget if you want an open bar and dinner.
All of the places named are lovely but $$$$$$ (think $300/per person after tax & tip). Also, book now, as I suspect most of fall 2007 is already booked at many of these highly desirable venues.
We got married at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown: www.lyndhurst.org, which I highly recommend (its a dramatic gothic estate) and is significantly less expensive.
If you are willing to go farther afield: Opus40.org, a sculpture garden.
Sky Studios!
www.skystudios.com
Hi,
We got married in March at Battery Gardens and the space is beautiful (views of the statue of liberty and the harbor), the food is excellent, the staff is great, and the price isn't crazy (like the Orensanz).
Good Luck!
Hi,
My friend got married at Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn and it was gorgeous. She had close to 400 people and they all fit without a problem.
kudos for being able to afford it!
I always thought a really cool venue would be the newly restored Milstein Hall of Ocean Life with the gigantic blue whale suspended overhead ... I mean, you'd have to be pretty into marine life but if you want an indoor wedding, the space is wonderful and they have an amazing staircase for a breathtaking entrance. And, the $$ is going to a good cause.
Ooops, Milstein is at the American Museum of Natural History.
Consider Cipriani near Grand Central. Seriously breathtaking space (in an old-money way) if budget allows.
My dream wedding (okay, "my wedding" a bigger dream...) would be in the Metropolitan Museum in the Dendur Temple room.
Can't believe nobody has mentioned Liberty House in Liberty State Park:
http://www.libertyhouserestaurant.com/
You will get fabulous photos on the huge lawn in front of the NY skyline.
Similarly, the Jersey City Hyatt has a ballroom with a large terrace overlooking the city: http://jerseycity.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp
There's also a W Hotel opening next summer on the Hoboken waterfront that will have optimal views of NY.
Hire a boat to shuttle your guests over as they sip their first glass of champagne.
But be forewarned, you will NOT save money by going with these prime Jersey venues.
New York Public Library is a gorgeous place to get married....
Nothing beats the Oceanic Deck of the New York Aquarium at night. You can bring in any caterer you'd like and the site fee is on the low end of the NYC spectrum.
I highly recommend Marcey Brownstein Catering. They were amazing to work with. I was married in June at the Foundry in Long Island City, and Marcey and her staff catered the event. My guests are still raving about the food and the service. The foundry was a great space also. I loved it.
Good Luck!
Are you people REALLY leaving it up to me to remind these unfortunate souls that the divorce rate now EXCEEDS 50%? Don't go nuts on the expense, folks. Your marriage is probably doomed.
Riverside Church.
Mandarin Oriental in the Time Warner building.
The new york genealogical society on
east 58th street has a fantastic
ballroom that you can rent inexpensively
(i once looked into it and it was around
2k for the evening; about 5 yrs ago; includes
tables and chairs. you provide caterers, etc.).
There's a great portrait of simon bolivar

reception room. A grand old place

Maybe this has already been mentioned, but the Fire Museum also has a space you can rent. My husband and I had our wedding there, catered by the Cleaver Co. Offers exposed brick walls, use of 3 museum floors.
http://www.nycfiremuseum.org/rentals/weddings/index.php
Can you rent the firemen??! My dream wedding scenario has just changed!!
I just got married at the Bronx Zoo. It was so beautiful and everyone enjoyed the animals! The staff are really great too. The in-house caterer is very affordable and the food is decent.
Hey khands,
Im' getting married at the Foundry next year, could you email me, I'd love to see pics from your wedding, so I can get ideas !
mrc_1106 at hotmail dot com
we just got married at Angel Orensanz in june. It is simply amazing - there is no other space like it. Our guests were raving about it. During the reception I stood still and looked around - it cast such a warm glow. By the way, the rental package is not cheap, but it includes a lighting designer which is worth more than the cost you are paying for everything else- plus, rentals add up. If you have to get your own rentals at another space, it will be as much, if not more. I used Marcey Brownstein for catering also - she was great.
Redherring got married at the Bronx Zoo...i know that there is a wonderful way to somehow insult P2 about this - something involving P2 in a cage, elephant crap, monkeys touching themselves...i am not sure. but i know if i weren't exhausted, P2 you would be SO insulted right now
R-
I spent a lot of time over the summer looking at NYC wedding venues. If you post your email address, I'll send you my notes.
i got married at the hudson theatre, which is a former broadway theatre turned into an event space. it's really a unique, beautiful and exciting space. rent it through the millennium hotel, on 43rd st between 6th and broadway.
We was married at the Riverside Church and then had our reception across the street at the Union Theological Seminary - which has a gorgeous courtyard and two ballrooms. It was also designed by the same architects who designed the Riverside so it has a similar gothic sensibility.
Their resident caterers are Showstoppers NY and they were fantastic - and inexpensive (by NY standards). It was quite a surprise to the jaded NYers who thought they had seen every location Manhattan had to offer.
jonathan--
You mean insulted instead of incredibly turned on?

Hello and congratulations! Wow, how I wish this thread had existed a few years ago when I was planning my wedding!
Having planned my own NYC wedding almost four years ago I wanted to comment on this question. I think that all of the above places you have visited and suggestions made are great, it really depends on your budget and what kind of day you want to have. (If I had the money, I think the most beautiful place for a wedding would be an early fall wedding at Blue Hill Stone Barns or Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, the rose garden in September takes on a beautiful rustic glow).
I also have a few suggestions for rehearsal dinner spaces, if you choose to do that. Two new ones I learned about and visited are Frankie's in Carroll Gardens, they have this great barn-like space in the backyard that can be used for large dinners/ events and Passanella & Son, Vitners in the South Street Seaport. Passanella is in my neighborhood and I always look down and see lovely events going on in their tasting room. (I think you can also rent the entire wine store, which is gorgeous, for cocktail parties and smaller dinner events).
Good luck with the planning! It's a lot of work but once you set the date and location the rest can begin to fall into place.
p.s. The Cleaver Company is outstanding! I've been to events where they have catered and the food is memorable and delicious. Highly recommend.
I second Wave Hill, but also have to add that I really, really don't want to read about weddings here. Just adding that in as my two cents. :)
This question seems fine, but please don't make it a regular thing, design angle or not.
I also just got engaged and just started the search for an esthetically appealing venue. Our budget is much much much lower than $50K. Betsy, I'd like to take you up on the offer of your research list. Please send to kbandcbwedding@gmail.com. Thanks to the community for your patience on this thread. I certainly appreciate it.
Go find a wedding website and leave us alone!
sky studios is awesome but too tight for 200 people.
One more shout-out for the Foundry: we were married there last October, and it was fabulous. You can consider doing a cocktail reception instead of a full-blown sit-down dinner. It saves a lot of money, and all of your guests would fill up on the hors d'oeuvres anyway!
we used gary's loft (36th and 5th) in july and loved it. beautiful space with flexible furnishings. you can have the ceremony on the roof and the reception inside. *probably* fits 200, though we had much fewer. $2500. garysloft.com
I know this is not in NYC but hands down, the most enchanting wedding I've ever been to (other than my own) was held at Gristina's vineyard out on the north fork of long island. Cocktail hour in the tasting room, dining and dancing under a big tent alongside the rows of grapes....
Betsy, I would also like to take you up on the offer for the research you have done. I got engaged in March and was initially supposed to have the wedding in St. Thomas but had to change recently. Now I am going out of my mind trying to find a location. My email address is: mstridir@gmail.com . Thank you so much and good luck to all.
Hi, Betty
I'm new...and would love your research too. I'm just starting to discuss budget with my mother and she is panicking about a manhattan wedding. Sorry to continue the hijacking of this board, i won't do it again.
:-)
Please email me at expatgal_75013@yahoo.com
Thanks so much!!
Lisa
I would love to get a copy of your research on NYC wedding venues. Our budget is about 40k and are having a tough time planning a wedding for about 100 guest. Thanks again
lorenalperez@hotmail.com
Try AVEvenue - they have two beautiful loft spaces near Madison Square Park with views of the Empire State Building AND both a yummy in-house caterer and design team.
www.avenyc.com
Betsy, if you can, I will also like to take a look at your research (slowchange@aol.com). THis is really a painful process! The only advise that I can give, is that I looked at a lot of places so far, and I found that you can get the most bang fr your buck at Battery Gardens (has anyone been to a wedding there?); and don't waste your time at the Metropolitan Building in L.I.C. - It is a nice space, but there is a $7000 site fee and you have to bring your own bar! (WTF! Your own Bar!), plus, the kitchen was pretty nasty looking. I just looked at Terrace On the Park in Queens, and I don't know how to feel about that place...any thoughts? Jim
P.S. Long Island is cheezy
Betsy,
Will you please add me to the mailing list?
Thanks so much,

Betsy,
could you please add me as well?
Thanks,

I would really love that research as well. I've been doing a little "research" of my own and failing. I was going to have it at Orensanz, but I think it's out of budget after speaking to them.
Thanks.

Oh, I forgot to add my address. Hey I can share my info with you too, if you want to swap. Thanks!

Betsy, you've quickly become a very popular person! I too would very much appreciate your notes. rebecca.johnson8@gmail.com
Our budget is small and we might be too optimistic thinking that we can exchange vows in the city. I thank everyone for their comments!
My fiance and I looked at Gary's Loft yesterday and it was AWESOME. It's $4500 for the use of the penthouse and $6000 for the use of the 11th and 12th floor. You get the space for 10 hours and in my opinion the space doesn't need a lot in the way of decorations or flowers. It's a loft with a very welcoming and homey feel. It also seems that Gary is flexible with the use of his space and at this time is schedule for next fall is still pretty open. Gary did estimate that we'd probably have to spend another $5,000 on party rentals.
Betsy,
I'd also like to receive your "NYC Venue" email (paperwhite@hotmail.com).
We're trying to find a place for a smaller wedding (about 80 ppl) and finding that a lot of places really don't want smaller weddings. I'm sure I could get the numbers higher but I'd rather not have to invite my dad's boss's friend's doctor's assistant.
Thanks!
I'll take any helpful and affordable site recommendations as well. Trying to do a NYC wedding thats some what traditional and some what funky for 175ppl. Let me know what you know: bkmanda@hotmail.com
I am looking for a NYC Venue as well...Please help me. I am looking to spend $30,000 for up to 100pp Hi BETSY!!!!! email me tooo!!!!! or anyone who knows or can recommend an affordable place
elleny76@yahoo.com
I would also love any advice or research regarding venue/caterer/everything-else for a small (80 people) wedding in NYC. My e-mail address is rsilver@uchicago.edu.
I'm afraid the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens might make a smaller group seem awkward (not to mention to 100 person minimum for a daytime wedding).
The Harold Pratt Mansion looked really pretty online- has anyone been to a wedding there? Or the Faculty House at Columbia?
Thanks!
Betsy,
Please add me to your email list as well!!! I would love to see your research! Thank You! We just got engaged and would love to find an intimate setting for Fall 2007.
Betsy,
ooops! here's my email address:

Hi, Betsy: Thank you for your wonderful help. Can you add me to your email list? kolee.nyc@gmail.com. Thank you.
Please please email me if you comes across anything. Having the reception somewhere else. Need space for the vows and cocktail (preferable if I can cater it myself and not have to use their caterers) for about 70 people. If anyone else knows please help. graceandhome@gmail.com
Thanks all! Has anyone been to a wedding at Manhattan Penthouse? Thoughts on it? Seems to be an affordable spot in NY for 150 or so...jennmarcum@gmail.com

Hello. Not sure if this thread is still active, but can someone please send me the list as well?
aliciant07@gmail.com
It looks like it has been a while since anyone has posted, but I am looking for info on the Prospect Park Picnic House as a wedding reception venue. Does it get uncomfortably hot in June without the A/C? Has anyone been to a wedding there on a 70 to 80 degree day? I am hoping that with the fans and the windows cross-ventilating, it will be comfortable. Am I dreaming?
Thanks!
Hi Betsy -- If you're still out there, giving wedding advice, may also see that legendary list? New York weddings are expensive as ever!
Thanks for your help.
