As you can see, I have a very small living/dining room. I have a dining table on the other side (not seen in photo). To liven the room up, I am thinking of buying a rug for the couch area. I am not sure about rug size -- should I go with a 3x5 (the newspaper underneath the coffee table is approximately 3x5, to help visualize) or a 4x6?...

I think the larger size may make the room look smaller, as it will take up floor space between the coffee table and wall unit, but not for any good reason. Thoughts?
Thanks so much, Jay
LIVEN UP THAT LIVING ROOM! We need more than a rug here. We need COLOR. We need two more seating positions to cure the movie theater syndrome that has taken over here.
BUT, as for the rug size, we would say go bigger than 3x5 as that is too paltry and small. We'd go with a 4x6 OR get an 8x10 and turn it sideways to cover that whole half of the room.
Don't worry about it making the room smaller (only if you choose a busy or super dark rug will that happen a bit) - go for cozy and soft under your feet.
