Last year we rounded up ten examples of bathrooms featuring clawfoot tubs - take a peek at the post for some quick inspiration, while we pose your question to the readers.
What would you suggest to Trisha as a design direction for her new bath? Let us know in the comments below - thanks!

Pictures would help...
...but after the tiling is done and the vintage fixtures are installed there's not much one can do to change direction beyond installing a stainless steel toilet, putting up Marimekko shower curtains or painting the untiled sections of the walls black.
...and suddenly, photos appear!
Make my suggestion painting the walls dark brown to tie in the floor tiles - and hanging a shower curtain that has both dark brown and grey in the pattern.
I LOVE the tile work. Good job. But as for the rest...
It looks like you don't have any storage space. That's the problem with pedestal sinks. If you replace the sink with a cabinet in a dark wood or painted black finish it would declutter your sink. Next, I would either paint or wallpaper the wall tonally something in between the marble tile and stone floors. Get a framed espresso finished mirror over the sink preferably one with more storage. And lastly paint the underside of the tub the same color as the wall.
Definitely keep the cat. It ties the entire room together.
How about a small chest near the door? And since it doesn't seem like you have a shower (am I wrong?), you have plenty of wall space for shelving. Also, I think that the mirror is a nice size but not quite the right color. Darker would be better. And towels would look cute rolled up in a basket that you can slide under the back end of the tub. Don't miss out on utilizing that space. A very simple art piece like a line drawing above the toilet would look nice.
I think this bathroom has so much potential and I wish we ever got to see the finished rooms!
I also love the tile job, beautiful choices. :) I disagree with the suggestion about getting rid of the sink - it's lovely, and you can add storage in other, less expensive ways. You could install a small cabinet over the toilet or just put in some simple wood shelves there if you want more storage. Or maybe you don't need storage if you have a roomy medicine cabinet, towel hooks/bars, and keep your extra linens & toilet paper in the linen closet. You could always keep fresh, folded towels in a basket on the floor or stacked on a chair by the tub, and baskets also work to hold spare rolls of toilet paper.
Whatever you decide about the storage situation, your next job would be painting if you choose to do that and choosing a color scheme. If you want to add color, I like the idea of painting a creamy yellow or a pale blue. You could replace the light fixture above the medicine cabinet, and even replace the cabinet if you want a more vintage look. I would paint the frame of the wood mirror white or replace the mirror entirely with some art. Put up art elsewhere in the bathroom (over the toilet would be a good spot if you don't choose to put shelving there), add a rug, and you're good.
The bathroom is lovely, so I'm sure whatever you do will turn out great. Good luck!
Your bathroom is classic and traditional. The fixtures and finishes you’ve selected lean toward the antique – and you just have to embrace that! Putting up a Marimekko shower curtain and painting the walls a trendy color will just look half-assed. Like you couldn’t make up your mind.
If you look at the photos provided by the AT editors, you’ll see that most of them have something in common: Relatively clean lines and a spare aesthetic. This approach helps to mediate a room full of antiques and historic fixtures. Clean lines and a touch of minimalism bring a “freshness” to antiques.
You also have some oddly conflicting elements. The Carrera marble wall tile and red marble floor are both classic and luxurious. And then you have the basket and wood mirror, which are rustic and country. Get rid of the latter, and streamline your accessories to work with the classic look of your tile. And by all means, find some storage to tame all the clutter.
And don’t forget about art! Just because it is a bathroom doesn’t mean everything has to be functional. Art can be a subtle (or not so subtle) way to introduce something modern. Think classics updated. How about a collection of black/white silhouettes of your family members (including your cat)? Traditional reference, with a modern take.
If this were my bathroom, I would probably go 30s glam. Maybe a deco mirror, a mirrored bar cart for storage by the door, a lot of silver. As for paint, I'd stick with white, black, or gray.
I agree generally with arroyo, with regard to the classic and luxurious. I think if you pare down a bit, and focus on this idea, it will help the bath feel more like I imagine you intended it to.
Using a dark paint with a color to it on the top half with a glossy sheen would glam it up a bit. A tailored skirt for the vanity with a pinstripe around the bottom in the could be fun as well. I'd match the towels to whatever color you choose for the pinstripe. With a few glass shelves on chrome hardware to match the faucets, you could minimize the clutter. A little artwork, and voila!
I think the choices you have made are great. Think about why you chose those things and keep moving in that direction-
Good luck!
That's funny! The walls remind me of the recent A.T. post about Benjamin Moore paints.

If you click the bathroom photo, they have similar marble tile walls and the top is Feather Grey. See, all you need is that paint and a lovely fern!
And paint out the brown wood mirror frame in white.
Based on the first photo I was going to say white white white... but seeing more of the room - I think you need some color - and stainless steel - like a nice glass and steel console to store towels. maybe a mirrored chest of drawers? And I was thinking blue, tiffany blue.
But then someone commented about the floor tile - and I had to go back and look - and now I realize - maybe the new tile you are talking about is the floor - and I'm trying really hard to figure out how you chose a dark, rustic looking tile to go with a classic, beautiful herringbone wall tile? I'm totally stumped. I would have picked a hexagonal - white and black pattern to play off the gorgeous marble herringbone. Or a large square white marble tile for the floor.
Or maybe these are the before pictures?
Anyway, before I noticed the floor I was going to say paint the upper portion of the walls a medium gray to tie in with the marble herringbone pattern - or for more color - the tiffany blue.
I don't know what to do about the floor.
Okay... I apologize. Looking again - the floor tile doesn't look 'rustic' - it has the potential to be very sleek and modern -like with dark wood or bamboo cabinets and a granite or glass counter top - it just doesn't 'go' with the antique vibe that seems to be the primary theme here.
I'm just confused.
A punch of an unexpected color would make the room interesting and more modern. Perhaps a dark turquoise or pale yellow? You could also do a gray and then have a few bright accessories- a small chandelier, bold rug, or some inexpensive but eye-catching art. Having something unusual will keep the bathroom from being too historic and predictable. Love what you have so far!
paint
Love that herringbone tile! Fabulous.
Walls: Pale, warm gray, like a dove gray.
Replace mirror with something more art deco and put in a really good light fixture.
Towels & rug in some sort of lovely color--I like the Tiffany blue suggestion that someone else had.
"maybe the new tile you are talking about is the floor - and I'm trying really hard to figure out how you chose a dark, http://www.Rating5.com rustic looking tile to go with a classic, beautiful herringbone wall tile?"
I agree with Arroyo, it already looks like you couldn’t make up your mind and that you didn't think this through. Why did you get an old-looking sink if you don't want a "too old" look? Maybe you should take this as a lesson - don't start renovating here and there before you've have a final plan for the entire room.
How to "fix" it? Well, start by taking every single loose item out of there, including mirrors, lamps and towel rack. Then take another look at your bathroom. What do *you* think is missing - red colours, wood, stainless steel, antique-something, plants...? Where do you want to go from there?
Btw, I see a toothbrush on the toilet (eew!) and clutter on the sink. You need storage.
I too think there is a disconnect between your flooring and your marble walls; the two just don't work together (not just colour-wise, but vintage-wise: those sorts of floors were never installed in a bathroom the vintage you are putting together -- you would never have seen those floors with such fixtures). Neither does the wood-framed mirror.
I think you are very fortunate in that you appear to have enough room for a salvaged vintage medical cabinet for your storage needs, allowing you to get rid of your baskets. Here are some options:

Do something with the exterior of your clawfoot tub -- either paint it with a metal paint -- I like the crispness of painting it a matte black, but you can't do that because of your brown floor. Not sure what colour paint to suggest in your case... However, I recently saw tubs like yours where the exterior had been covered in glass mosaic tiles... would look brilliant if in your case, the exterior of your tub were covered in tiny silver mosaic tiles...
You can also have the feet of your tub plated -- get it done to match your plumbing fixtures. It is not that expensive.
I like the idea of an oversized mirror hung over the tub, but not that particular oversized mirror. Either go with an ornate white-painted frame or a Venetian style mirror instead. Something like this perhaps:
http://www.casuallyeleganthome.com/store/products/details/?product=VG86-1
Get a toilet to match your vanity -- there should be one available in the same range as the sink. Right now, your toilet makes the stylistic discordance in your bathroom more noticeable. It has the wrong lines for your room.
On the wall at the head of your tub, you can have a glass-door cabinet to hold towels. Something shabby-chic may be nice.
As for the floor, short of retiling it, the only thing you can do is to cover as much of it as possible with a rug. I've seen oriental-style rugs in bathrooms, and have read that if raised on a mat, allowing for air circulation underneath, that they do quite well in bathrooms. I'd read up on it if I were you, to see if it could work here. Something with champagne colours would work well in your space.
Good luck!
loveeeeeee the marble work!
Move the wooden mirror and accessories to another room and use chrome instead. Stick to grey, but go with a warm grey to reconcile the floor and the walls. The walls will stand out nicely. A Venetian mirror would be very nice. I wouldn't paint the tub, either. You know what would be a nice touch, too, is a small Roman column where your bath basket and the black cube are now. I'm also thinking of bright red bath sheets. This bathroom reminds me Rome in the 60s straight out of the movie Contempt.
Sorry, I know you don't want too much of a historical look, but I think one or two interesting salvage pieces would be fun.
Sorry, last comment! I just got an update from one of my favorite ebay sellers that they have a concrete column table.

I think you need to paint the walls a color present in the tiles. Your color needs to be a tad darker, and tied to the tiles by color.
Have you thought of wrought iron? A set of shelves would serve as a bathroom closet. I did a bath similar to this, with a Jacuzzi and a pedestal sink, and had 18" of wall space. I found a 16" wide aluminum five feet tall copy of a wrought iron design. I used a Benjamin Moore product to cut the glaze on the aluminum, primed it, and then used another Benjamin Moore product that makes aluminum look like wrought iron. It has particles suspended in the paint, so you have to stir and paint, stir and paint. But it's a dead ringer. Only the weight will give you away.
On one wall, across from the Jacuzzi, behind the door, I bought three wooden medicine cabinets four inches deep, and hung them together as one in a row. I painted them the color of the walls. I had plenty of space for everything.
Get rid of the brown tile, wooden frame mirror, light fixture and the mirror above sink.
I would get the same Carrera tile for the floor but in 6x6 and make a small inset in dark gray with some geometric small accent tile.
I would leave the walls bright as darker color wouldn't work for me - you want to keep it looking fresh.
I'd get either polished chrome open shelves for all those cluttering pieces or a white wooden tall cabinet with glass doors, further, an oval mirror with polished chrome accents and put two light fixtures in the same finish to flank your mirror.
Painting on the wall above the tub unless you decide to go with a curtain.
I would keep it white - that way you will have that older look but still have it trendy.
Good luck!
Oh yeah I forgot: I would get rid of the metal cover plates for light switch and the electrical outlet.
The advice from someone above to plate the claw feet is priceless - there is a small place in Winnetka called Bellow's and they do wonderful job.
And yes, get rid of rattan baskets.
Bold black and white wallpaper everywhere above the tiles, I would also remove the mirror above the bath and reframe the one above the sink with a white or black frame. For more storage options, i would install two or three shelves like those ones http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60103632 and also add more light. This room has a great potential I think ! Good luck !
You've got a great starting point, I wouldn't do too much. I love the tile, let it be the focus by keeping the color scheme simple. Keep the walls white or a soft grey. I'd get a small white chest by the door for storage and change out the mirror and light fixture over the sink... maybe a beveled oval mirror with chrome brackets. A plant and some art would complete the picture...maybe black and white photos, or sketches, or botanical prints. I agree with arroyo, traditional pieces can look clean and fresh when used in a minimalist setting.
I would paint the walls dark, almost black, then add a white shower curtain, some old-fashioned mirror and lamps. You´d also need to fins some good solution to your storage problem.
Here are some painted tubs to give you an idea of how it could work...
If you had a different floor, simple white hex tiles for example, or a white marble, or best of all, a white poured resin floor or equivalent, painting your tub a fresh spring green would make it very modern (especially with the black iron feet, which you can easily purchase):
http://www.astonmatthews.co.uk/baths/productdetails.asp?150,0,0,23,2
Here is a tub painted grey, with a rug in front of it... not the more historical look you are going for, but does show this mixing of brown and grey, along with a rug:

Here is a black tub with black feet (very classic yet very modern at the same time) with a Venetian mirror:

Given the colours in your bath, I might go with a dark grey or off-black, like Farrow & Balls Downpipe or Off-Black. Remember though, you will need a metal primer and appropriate paint. (your tub looks as though perhaps it has already been painted... )
As for your walls, the darkness as well as the colour of your floor limit your options significantly. Dark brown walls in a bathroom somehow seem wrong... painting bathroom walls dark also is not very practical given the need for good visibility. I'd stick with a creamy shade of white lifted from the marble walls.
Again, bonne chance!
(...maybe reconsider that brown floor...?...)
You say you don't want to go "historical". I assume you mean Victorian?
Looking at the tile, it gives me a Greco-Roman vibe.
I'd first do away with the mirror over the tub and replace the sink one with a piece that more closely matches the color of the floor.
I'd put a framed print of a Greek ruin or other landscape up over the tub.
I'd put a little shelf over the sink for toothbrushes and a water glass. Thick floor mats in beige with a brown Grecian Key border for in front of the tub and sink/toilet, and a shower curtain with the same design.
A walnut colored wooden chest for storage for towels and bath products could replace the wicker basket. I'm sure Ikea has something that would suffice. Hang the large mirror over it and you have a vanity table, but darken the frame to more closely match the floor tile.
I'd also pull a lighter brown from the floor tile - the pale streak in the floor in front of the toilet for example - for the walls. A faux plaster or textured finish could give it a Roman Villa vibe.
I'd go with a vintage color with punch - like cantaloupe or veering into the pinky oranges. Not a fully saturated hue though. I would also look for an vintage style bar cart or something similar for interesting storage. I recently saw A Single Man so I'm a wee bit obsessed with 50s/60s washes of color and bathroom accessories. While I like the mirror over your tub very much, I would probably switch it out for something with more detail or mixed material. Personally, I would remove the towel rack in favor or two robe/towel hooks.
And of course a beautiful bit of artwork wouldn't hurt.
I'd paint the wall a darkish gray based on the wall tile -- pick a tone from the tile that is at least a mid-tone gray. If there is any brown in that tile, I'd choose a warm gray that works with the floor tile. Otherwise go with a slate kind of blue-gray.
If possible, replace the toilet with one that matches the sink, as someone else suggested.
Place a small espresso cabinet, as modern as possible, just inside the door (where the basket sits now) for towels and essentials. Put a potted white orchid on top. NOTHING else! ;^)
Replace the mirror over the sink with something more glamorous -- Venetian as suggested or maybe an ornate Victorian picture frame with mirror inserted. Something with presence. Hang art over the tub. Something with brown, white, gray and green in it.
If you shower in the tub, get a ring style shower curtain rod that is mounted so the whole tub is encircled with shower curtain when closed. Choose a geometric print curtain in white with brown and gray designs.
Use white towels on rods that match the finish on your faucets.
I don't know if you'll have much money left after replacing the floor tile. That brown just doesn't work. Replace with white, carrera marble or grey slate floor tiles 12x12 or larger in simple diamond pattern.
Invest in a cabinet for storage either white, black or mahogoney colored. Paint the walls a dark grey, white or something in between.
Paint the tub exterior black with silver feet or all silver.
And just give the plumbing fixtures are really good cleaning or resurfacing.
The brown really makes no sense with the wall tile- hope it was a great discount or better yet free.
good luck.
I have seen in a restaurant the walls painted in a warm grey brownish colour that it would be perfect for your walls.
I would remove that mirror.
I would put a bathroom rug white or light grey.
On the top of your toiet see I'll put a white vase with beautiful flowers.
I would put a beautiful courtain with some orange touches no too opaque...
I would add some other orange touches to the bathroom
And I don't think that stool with the basket fits there.
Maybe a stool painted with the same colour than the walls and a white basket?
Or maybe some white cabinets easily to move...
