Q: I was wondering if you guys might know of a local place to get some really thick (like 1/2" and thicker) felt. I've been seeing it used a lot lately, like in this chair found on dezeen. I'm not particularly a fan of this specific use of it, but I think it is a pretty cool material. Any thoughts?

anywhere near chicago? I've always kept my eye out and haven't found anything. I'm thinking industrial grade wool...
i know peace industry has felt (wool) made in iran that she uses to make beautiful rugs. a lot of times they have scraps, etc..i bet you could easily purchase some from her.

they are located on hayes st.
WOW, Those rugs are gorgeous!
That looks like industrial wool felt, which is much thicker and sturdier than craft-store felt and cheaper than the deluxe solid wool stuff that filzfelt sells. A few years back there was an AT post about sources for it:

I particularly liked Maxwell's use of it to make sliding doors.
I am up in the seattle area and I know some people were able to get the industrial grade felt from Boeing Surplus store. I do not know if it is something they always carry but you might want to check out a similar industrial surplus.
@ Liana:
Thanks! I tried searching for a posting on this and didn't find that one.
That page has some great links. Those are definitely the kinds of felt I am looking for.

wow, this seems like an odd place for abercrombie & fitch to spam. seems like the wrong target audience...
Well, I'm not sure where 'local' is for you, but Aetna Felt has thick felt.
Cheers!
If I don't get one of those rugs from peaceindustry.com, I think I'm going to just DIE A VERY SLOW DEATH!
