Q: I have this plywood lounge chair and ottoman that I recently found on Craigslist for $150. Obviously it's not an original Herman Miller piece and I'm not even sure it's a Plycraft either but for $150 why not? The condition is fairly good but there are plenty of scratches and a couple of missing screws and a small hole in the leather. Its fine as is but I'm kind of interested in maybe personalizing it.

Could I remove the screws and sand the finish off and re stain? I've never sanded plywood this old and not sure if its possible. I'm really afraid of ruining it.

I also wanted to remove the leather and reupholster it in cowhide. Luckily I have experience pattern making and sewing leather (FIT grad here) but haven't ever upholstered something like this. Any advice??? I really want to do this but I don't want to get myself into a huge situation!

Another question: your opinion on this purchase? I know a lot of you out there would argue purchasing a replica is frowned upon but I really do find this chair comfortable and for $150 is it a bad choice?
