Q: I am getting ready to redo my bedroom. I am in love with this bed (larger photo below) and I am set on purchasing it. The problem is, I want a chest of drawers in the room, but I do not like the one that matches the set. Please help; I need to find something that will look nice with this bed before I can make the commitment.

wow, such a nice bed!
That is a beautiful bed, but I don't think I can give you any suggestions without knowing what else is going in your new bedroom! I don't like matching sets either... it's tough to find something complimentary. I would probably go with something simple to off-set the curves in the bed frame.
Um ladymantle, that first sentence is one person's opinion, and I respectfully disagree.
If you wanted to glam it up a bit, I love the look of mirrored pieces in a bedroom.
If not, I also love traditional painted Asian furniture, or slightly more modern interpretations thereof.
Whatever your style, I'd say the key to making the next piece work is either some shared trait of either shape or color. But it also needs to be different enough to look like "not a mistake."

Where is that bed from?
that bed is beautiful
i think something like this would be beautiful

but you should get the bed you want
and
over time
you will find the right dresser
good luck
While I disagree with Ladymantle's statement about what matches, she is right - this is based upon a Caribbean / African Colonial or Anglo-Indian bed from the 19th C.
I can't give you specific suggestions, but look at photos of Indian and Caribbean bedrooms and see what they use - probably VERY eclectic, and colorful. One such book is India Style.
Actually, Colonial Caribbean interiors aren't all that colorful.
Indian, sure, way out colorful.
I could also see the bed working with silver painted or silver-leaf look casegoods.
I have a much simpler bed along the same idea: dark wood with a colonial-English aesthetic, curvy top. Mine doesn't have the beautiful spindle work, but I'm a grad student working on a tight budget. Since at the time I got it I couldnt' afford a "matching set" (and I'm not really "matchy-matchy" anyways), I found end tables at GoodWill which I painted white, and a walnut chest on Craigslist. It's ok that the bed is glossy and the walnut chest is a little more matte; what mattered more was the lines (classic bow-front) and I added some amber glass knobs from Lowes for punch and sparkle. Find a piece with the right "lines" and you can dress it up (glass knobs, etc) or down (paint!) to fit your aesthetic. Good luck!
That's a lovely bed. Are you buying the bedside tables with it?
I'd suggest to go for a contrast, with mirrored pieces, or silver leaf or painted white dresser as Patrick has suggested.
I can't think of where I've seen it, but a dresser covered with leather with nail head would look good with that.
I like that you've found such a wow bed, I'm sure once you have it in your room, you'll know how to put the rest together!
Don't do a matching set! I hate those. That bed is incredibly gorgeous! Is the armoire in the 2nd pic what you dislike? Do you have a link so we can see what it is you don't like?
First, I say if you love the bed, don't worry about finding a dresser before you buy it. You will find something to go with it. It really depends on your personal style and the look you want to acheive. Do you like color or do you want black and white or neutrals or what not. I can see so many possibilities with this bed for many different styles. Some good ones have been mentioned. The lines of the bed kind of reminds me of a Jenny Lind bed, so I'm imagining a farmhouse look. You could find a shabby chic dresser or paint and distress a wood one. I could also see it with a simple brightly painted dresser. Gosh, so many possibilities...any more info on your style or colors so we can be more specific would be great!
I've nothing to add other than, where is tat bed from? I love it!
I will echo the previous posts and say, it's hard to recommend something when we don't know what other pieces you own or what your general style is. I also think it would be helpful to know what the room architecture is like.
But having said all that. I will give it a go. If you wanted something that has a similar element (feet) and you could replace the drawer pulls with round black iron balls which would echo the tops of the finials on the bed. The dresser is not the same color (white or cream instead) but depending on your overall design, it could work well. Dresser from Pottery Barn.
If you want something in black, this seems to have some elements but would probably need some paint to have the same finish.
This</A> dresser from IKEA is smaller and less expensive with similar feet but would also need to be painted black (or any other color you like) with new drawer pulls.
Or you could go a totally different direction and get something that doesn't match at all, but looks like you collected it (like the bed). Here</A> is something from Pier1 that gets the idea across.
The bed is lovely. I am sure that whatever you decide to put with it will be grand.
Thanks for the suggestions gys! The bed is from Lexington furniture. It is in their Newport Long Cove collection.
I did not give much detail on decor because I am not set on anything yet. I plan to use soft, relaxing color, but I am pretty much starting from scratch.
I like the ideas of the silver-leaf or mirrored furniture best, but I will do some research on wood pieces with similar lines. Though I like the idea of asain-inspired pieces, they don't really fit my style.
I would use a dresser that is antiqued/distressed in white or you could also do a pale blue or green.
If you want to stay within the same color family, I'd consider something classic like this in black:

But I agree with those encouraging you to steer away from matchy-matchy. How about something like this:

or

How about campaign furniture? Two of these chests side by side with a mirror on top would be a fun & unique dresser.

I agree that with a bed like this and your aversion to matchiness, more of a "collected" look would be the most elegant solution. Decide for yourself what "period" the bed is inspired by (with those legs could also be Colonial Americana as well as Indo-European) and chose your furniture based around that theme. Then you can choose textiles, curtains, rugs and smaller furniture in a more modern vein so it doesn't look like a museum set. Good luck - you have a great foundation in that bed to create a beautiful room.
