Q: My partner and I are getting our first dining room set. We have decided to go with the CB2 Tribe dining table as it seems to be the best bang for the buck, but the chairs that CB2 pairs with it seem....well, they look cheap. Any recommendations on chairs that would go with the table that are around $600 for a set of six?

Alphaville has good knock-offs for good prices. Maybe a little higher than $100 per, but close. http://www.alphavilledirect.com/index.html
You might also want to ask your local consignment store to keep their eye out for what you're looking for, or try to visit estate sales.
If you can manage it, spend a bit more. Dining chairs see a lot of use so it's worth getting good quality or you'll be replacing them soon. Or take your time, sit on folding chairs in the meantime, and wait for the perfect used set with good construction.
Here are a couple of budget options that would look good:

Overstock.com has repros of all sorts of chairs for good prices.
Spread the $600 budget over only four chairs for now. You'll have more options. Cuz honestly, $100 a chair is not totally realistic.
nice table!!!
i like the pier 1 chair that dwelement posted but its a little more $ than you asked for

Unfortunately I don't have a good recommendation for you, but I'd like to alert people against buying large items from Overstock. I ordered a rug, they sent me the wrong size, twice, and they insisted that I take them back to UPS myself. In the meantime the size I wanted was sold out. Eventually UPS picked them up, but Overstock charged me for the replacement. In total it cost me about 4 hours on the phone with them (spread out over weeks) to remove the charges, plus a lot of aggravation, just to end up where I started. Google 'overstock complaints' for similar stories. Sorry about the rant, but I thought I'd warn people.
I second the notion of getting 4 chairs now and 2 more later. And you might make the 2 something a little different for the ends of the table -- something a little unexpected.
West Elm is having a sale on dining chairs right now.
Or four chairs and a bench. Then when you get two more chairs, the bench can migrate into another area, like the foot of a bed.
And if your dining area is living room-adjacent, spend a little more on two chairs that live full time in the living room but are dining-height appropriate and pulled in when you are seating six for dinner.
Rather than just getting four chairs, increase your budget and get all six. My experience is that when I do something like that, that by the time I've saved up for the rest, I find out they've been discontinued.
thats a very dramatic table -- i wouldn't go with anything upholstered in chairs unless they were really boxy parsons.
have you thought about stools with no backs? cb2 has a couple of them -- i still don't know if they would work for what you want to do with them. the "contact" stool would rock but i don't think you would want a whole set of 6 -- maybe a couple stools, a couple chairs, and a bench? don't settle for something less than perfect -- buy some ikea folding chairs or something for now and wait to find your dream chairs later.
If you're going to take patrick's advice (I would!) and you're in Chicago, $600 can get you some sweet chairs on Craigs:
4 white vintage Bertoia $600

4 vintage fiberglass shell chairs $200

4 MCM chairs $350

5 MCM chairs $50/ea

One more thought - these West Elm chairs are $99 each and the yellow bloom print one is fabulous!

aaakid--
I was thinking more like four that match now, and, at a later date, two that match each other but that just "go" with the original four (to be used as Host and Hostess, or in this case, Host and Host, chairs).
A more interesting look, and it won't matter if the original four are discontinued or not.
Another strategy: buy "palceholder" dining chairs now that will at some point be your kitchen chairs in a larger next place with an eat-in kitchen.
"placeholder", that is.
Sorry, slightly chair obsessed...
If you really need to keep the budget at $100/chair, get a hard-surface chair... cheap upholstered furniture does NOT hold up as well as its harder (wood, metal, fiberglass) counterparts.
A bad upholstered chair choice, and you'll be shopping for $100 chairs again in 6 months.

to commenter "see". I work at Overstock.com and our CEO saw your post. We want to make things right. If you will send your information to ceo@overstock.com, we'll take care of it and hopefully restore your confidence in us.
My husband and I just got this table too! We ordered the white West Elm Scoop Back Chairs. They arrive tomorrow. I hope/think they'll look really nice. I LOVE the table though, great choice!
p.s., We briefly considered the modern chairs they have at Target right now. Terrible. So cheap and beat up. Don't get those.
Thanks for all the feedback.
As it turns out - we lucked out! We found a set 4 of Arne Jacobsen's three-legged "Ant Chairs" chairs in great condition for less than $400 total. Right within our price range. Now we just need to find a couple of captains chairs for the heads of the table .
Thanks again!
hey there, i wanted to ask how the folks who got the tribe table like it. i saw on the cb2 website that someone said it might scratch easily and that it is high maintenance. is this true?
here in the philippines upholstered dining chairs are very cheap. and you can find it anywhere especially in malls here
