Q: I saw this picture (larger pic below) originally featured in Domino magazine almost two years ago. The place belongs to a couple (their band is called Blonde Readhead) and it became my dream apartment. I have been looking for a curtain or fabric just like this ever since, but I have not been able to identify it. Does anyone have any idea?

It reminds me of IKEA (although their entire apartment is quite far from IKEA world), but really, I would truly appreciate any hint/suggestion/ resource. Thank you very much!

Shaw's Original Fir...
You could always get plain white curtains or sheers and sew strips of blue ribbon down each side. I realize it isn't exactly the same but it would be similar.
Very pretty. Maybe you could get a blue band (e.g. blue gingham) sewn on to some white curtains? The pattern would be relatively easy to replicate.
It looks like a vintage Swiss dot fabric to me. Hard to tell from the photo, but those blue dots look like they might be raised. I agree, some ribbon applied to sheers would give you the same effect. It would be fun to leave the ribbon detached at random lengths near the bottom for a free-flowing Bohemian effect.
I see similar fabric frequently, in varying colors, but not here in the U.S. (in Switzerland and Southern Germany) and it's a raised embroidery that is in ribbon form and applied to a standard fabric. You might try taking the photo to a well-stocked fabric store (thinking something like Britex in San Francisco or Mood in NYC or L.A.) and asking if they have anything similar. I don't think you'll find it in the U.S. but they might have something reminiscent of that style (or a fabric & trim you could pair to replicate it).
In agreement with Rucy above, my first thought was European. To me, they look like cotton lawn with a woven stripe. Might want to try English, French, German and Belgian fabric sites...you just might find something.
It definitely looks like organza, or maybe batiste. I know I've seen ribbon like that at Vogue Fabrics.
Oops, I was in a rush, I bow to @zoee's need to be correct. It is indeed "trim", not ribbon, LOL.
another possibility is to draw the design as best you can and have the fabric printed by

I googled the band that you mentioned, and they have a website, you could try to reach them and ask them what the fabric is. Good luck!
Hi Yoko, They look like Mediterranean curtains in a poly-cotton blend (they seem to have a poly-esque sheen). I'd guess that they're probably from abroad.
I'd go with Susannah's recommendation and contact the band. You can email their publicist (on their Web site). Just send her the link to this thread and she may just be able to get their attention and have them answer that question for you. Or try Facebook (not MySpace--as that's often run by PR interns at larger labels).
I don't know if you are still looking, but I saw this Carolina Irving linen fabric and it looked about right. Photo on Remodelista: http://remodelista.com/posts/fabrics-linens-carolina-irving-textiles
The fabric is similar to Carolina Irving's pattern on hemp. See the article from September on this fabric. If I find the fabric in the photo, I will post the answer!

An even easier way would be to get some iron-on tape to attach the trim with. It comes in different widths and you'd have your new curtains up in a jiffy - of course, sewing would be better but not everyone has a sewing machine or the time and patience to do it by hand. Hope you'll post a photo of the results of your quest once you've decided on a solution.

ps. I've gotten great buys on high end trims (and fabrics) at http://restorationfabricsandtrims.com. They also have items listed on other sites and there are links to their other venues from this one.
I have curtains from IKEA which are similar except just white. They have raised swiss dots and are semi sheer. Super cheap too! You probably have to apply a blue ribbon or applique but I think you will like these. I love them! here is the link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10111984 Look closely for the dots. Good luck!
Don't laugh but what it really looks like are those old school cotton napkins that have either a blue (seen in pic) or red stripes. I work for a director who loves those napkins and they are not easy too find. Perhaps someone got crafty and sewed them together?
Good luck!
